Right i went through Steves thread he had as it sounds like the exact same problem he had but i have checked all the connectors to the throttle body which is what was causing his problem.

I have here a video of starting it earlier and if you listen carefully you can here it misfiring and then backfire and then rev perfectly untill i lift off the throttle and then start misfiring again.

Now i did start the car breifly before i took the video so it did start up a fare bit quicker than when completely cold.

I will upload another video tomorrow of exactly what it is like when cold in the morning trying to start it.



PS. I have new spark plugs in it. battery is fine, and alternator is fine. I have cleaned the contacts in the distributor and checked HT leads already.

I would say ignition leads and/or dizzy cap.

already checked them.

Did you try changing the HT leads? See if you can borrow a set off a members car to swap over and test.

My misfire and backfiring was when the throttle was pressed, the higher the revs the worse the backfire and when i let go of it it sort of puttered for a while. With the video i can tell its a similar problem.

I havent changed HT leads as I got no one around with a v6 to change with but i will be getting a multi meter to check their resistances. but here is the video of starting yesterday

Sounds very rough ego mate. My only other idea would be o2/lambda sensors. There are two on the V6.

well this morning i am going to attempt reseting the ecu. if that doesnt work i am going to put my old throttle body on and if that doesnt work i will look at getting lambda sensor

Not that I know a great deal Ayrton but id hazzard a guess its the leads

well i just went and reset the ecu and it started up a bit faster but still had the miss but only when you reved it so i pulled the leads off one at a time noticed it was cylinders 2 and 3 so i took the Distributor cover off and they were coked up again after i cleaned them a month ago so i cleaned them and bent them inwards so they are closer to the rotator arm and it started up and sounded better but i need to wait till it is ice cold again to see if it really has helped or not.. might be an idea to look at getting a new distributor cap i think unless someone says otherwise

Even just try taking the dizzy cap off and use a flat screwdriver (gently) to clean the 4 brass coloured points and clean the rotor arm too. I did this to mine and it did help a bit. The dizzy itself will most likely be clean but there i found a powdery residue on the arm and points.

I did do that to all 6 and then when i checked again there was 2 coked up again and they were on the problem spark plugs that were misfiring.

I have just just bit the bullet and placed a HUGE 3 figure order with mark at FPS as i cant leave my car like this with my parents they will end up making it worse lol

When did you last replace the cap? It's recommended that you change the leads, cap, rotor arm and plugs all at the same time.

I havent replaced any of it before. All the things mentioned were on the car when i got it over a year and a half ago but I got all new stuff on its way..

I agree with Lethagized, it certainly wouldnt do any harm replacing all. I have a 1.5 and i have done everything but the cap, however if i had a type r, money would be no object.

I'd love to feel the same and if I had the money, and a TypeR, it would be no object, but sometimes the cash just isn't there I say sometimes not there... it's never there it seems

I honestly do wish money was no object but you got to remember that i am still on cadet pay. when i qualify at the end of next year and will be on +£26000 per year as well as it being tax free and only have to work 6 months out of the year then it will be going off the road for a proper strip down and rebuild but now i struggle through every month so it gets what it can when i can afford it.

If you can, do a diagnostics check before you reset, this should eliminate any faulty sensors etc and reduce the amount of possibilities for you

I did get the car connected to a computer last week and everything was fine with no faulty sensors which i find strange as my fans still start up as soon as the engine has started which still makes me think that the ecu temp sensor is faulty but i replaced it as well ?!?

I have also just thought that it might be the inlet manifold gaskets as they were in a shabby state when i last had the inlet off so ordered some new ones of them as well

That would explain alot, I personally change any gaskets when I remove a part.

Fit everything one at a time, and see how it is, the only reason I say this is so you can identify the problem and keep the other parts as spares

not sure if i am going to have the time to do all this so might get my dads local garage to fit everything when i am at sea but we shall see
