rite then kiddies, me n joe manage to grab ourselves a couple of bargains so we fitted some 6x9s to both of our front doors this mornin, putting the standard 5x7s in the back doors, and heres how!

First phase

first step make sure the windows are down (important), then remove the door cards. this aint hard. dont forget to disconnect the plugs that connect the mirrors and windows controls.

screws:

1x top front corner
1x door handle
1x ash tray
1x top back corner of pocket

that should see the door card off (dont be afraid to give it a bit of a tug ;) ) if i missed any screws i apologies. you may have to open the door handle on the inside to get the card off.

this should leave you confronted with this.
Image

step two
offer up the speaker to check for clearance on the window. this is why you need the window down.
Image
not the best pic but you can see the plastic cup the magnet sits in, its pretty close but it dont touch it! (if it does then its down to you to make an approprite spacer, probably out of MDF)

step two A

clearance checked, you can mark the holes you will need to drill for the 6x9s (the standard holes aint ever gonna line up)
Image

just in case you cant see the mark, here is joe's finger!
Image

ahhh, top hole! repeat process for remaining three screw holes. remember these are only pilot holes
Image

step three

next the wiring. you could just hack up the original clip, but why not make a lil bit of wire that plugs into the standard clip using spade bits. so should you require to revert to standard for whatever reason, your wires fit.
Image

plug into the standard connector and plug into the speaker.
Image

screw the speaker in and your done. a good self taping screw is required for this. dont over tighten the screws, wouldnt like you to damage the speaker! however some work must be done on the door card.

step four

the door cards as you can see has a plastic rim round the inside of it to sit on the speakers, which must be removed in order for the new ones to fit.
Image

as you can see, using a good knife cut slits into the ring
Image
then bend the pladtic back and score it till it comes off. the end result should be a little like this:
Image

replace the door cards repeat for the other side. then advance forward one place :D

first phase complete

____________________________________________________________

second phase

however now the more complex part of gettin the 5x7s that were in the front, in the back.

step one
first of removing the door card. there again is one screw in the door handle and another in the ash tray sort of bit.

you must also remove the winding handle (if you have one). these have a metal clip in them:
Image
which must be removed in order to take the handle off. can be popped out with a flat head screwdriver (though be prepared to catch it!)

card off you have this poxy thing:
Image

step two
as you can see the hole it leaves is nothing like large enough, so it has to be enlarged
Image
have the speaker out and offer up the 5x7 to work out what needs cutting.
i should mention at this point that the pastic guard on the back of the 5x7 has been removed! this can be removed with a knife cutting the glue off and just pulling.

should have it marked something alone the lines of
Image

step three
now you have the cut marked, its time to attack it. we used a jigsaw to do this, anything else would probably take an age. it is at this point we must remind everyone using any power tool to wear the correct safety equipment
Image

kitted up hack away (filing down sharp edges) till you are left with an enlarged hole:
Image

now simple repeat the abox steps regarding the marking and fixing of the speaker and you should have a cracking sound system.

do not forget to do the same to the rear door cards as you did to the front, to avoid damaging the speaker.

phase two complete

now feel free to giggle with delight at how fantastic your car sounds
Image (or bounce around like extatic apes too, cheers Rich!)

Joe and Ben

nice work there :thumbright:

but I don't understand why people want 6x9's when a cheap comp. system sounds way much better.. just my opinion tho.

Must admit mate, we were trying to look sexy in them. Now you've pointed it out i realise that you're quite right. I must always concider that my girlfriend, who also has no sense of humor, just like you, will finish with me because of that terrible picture.

Basically, to sum up what i've put above. YOU PRICK! don't come in here with your 13 posts and ruin the hole meaning of Club 323. If you're not going to input anything meaningul or useful or even good humored to the site then don't bother using it.

Joe

thats ok, Jason, whilst we may only look retarded, you just possibly are.

see, you obviously were interested in this mod, so read the thread, which without us, you wouldnt have a clue about doing.

so when you go out and get metal shards in your eyes cutting up your doors, my brother and I will continue to have a laugh modding our cars, only this time at your expense, whilst still wearing our most sexy (and highly protective) safety goggles.

good day,

Ben
