@eogbaker
He does shitty work  (literally, working with robots that clean the floors in cow stables)
The garage is ours (est. 65square mtr) and nope we don't have a machine shop of our own, yet.

Anyhow;

Small update, the intake is back one including a fresh new gasket. We are going to use the GTX intake,
which is shorter and it already has the intake manifold temp. sensor in it for the MegaSquirt to operate correctly.
The 590cc Delphi injectors from the GTX are being used to have sufficient throughput ;)

Image

Tomorrow the rebuilded waterpump back on it, including the rockercover and the trigger wheel at the crank.
Maybe if I have some time left I will refurb the stock oilcooler as well.

Indeed it is, looking forward to seeing the results as it'll make a difference to what I do when I eventually fit my GT engine :D

Well, the plan is to stick it in Meanie, however, at the moment, I'm doing 500 miles and more a week and you know how much fuel costs over here now :?

So, while I wait for fuel prices to fall (hell to freeze over) or move closer to work, I'm just trying to get all the bits I'll need together.

The engine is in a post ford 1.8 BA at the mo, but I need to find the entire engine loom and ECU from a pre ford 1.8 to do the transplant :) I'm not planning on doing much to it internally at the moment, its only got just over 30,00 miles on it, so its barely run in :D Eventually though, I'd like sports CAT, possibly piggy back ECU to get the magic 145hp (pre CAT BG) from it, and then maybe a supercharger, turbo's are so eighties :p

Updates on the car.

We found out the reason(s) why the turbo engine died.
A faulty wastegate. The valve was not moving a single bit. With some heavy use of a hammer it came undone. It had been rusting badly

Image

As for the rest, the leftovers in the oil in the sump was telling us that there is coolant in it. Headgasket failure as it seems , it probably died because it was
running with an very high pressure (1.2bar/17psi and more (quick scan in the megasquirt logs)) of the turbo with the faulty wastegate.

Image

Anyhow, on to the new , non-turbo engine 8)

Engine mounted in the car, wiring loom connected and some hoses

Image

Inlet and all the hoses/electrical wiring connected, oil and coolant is already in

Image

Placed the battery finalised some bits and the exhaust refitted

Image

Starting will be done maybe today, maybe tomorrow. We are planning to get some spare ignition parts to be sure (coilpack and edis4 module).
Monday a package will arrive with some heatwrap in it for the exhaust manifold. Will be put on next week. It needs to run first.

great work! :D
still using the inlet manifold from the turbo? is that because it has better flow?

Thanks guys 8)

Inlet is somewhat shorter, maybe it helps. But mostly the TPS is different and will not fit the GT inlet and the inlet temp. sensor is already placed in it.. Keeps the wiring loom the same :D

You should get it dyno'd see what happens...

Also does the BP from the BG GT have VICS? MS supports the VICS valve! You can adjust the
working of it. Or well I've got that module on mine... Wasn't an addon was already there.

Quite interested in knowing some hard figures from this setup... might be 150 somewhere...

Wouldn't it be better to use the N/a intake then and play arround with the VICS settings?

Right,

Some updates frome the NL. The whole megasquirt setup did not wanted to work on the new 1.8 engine as well. Only 2 cilinders firing, outer two drenched... So the time kept on ticking and the first round of Time Attack here in The Netherlands was closing up on us we decided to go further on the N/A part. And that in the shape of a V6! 2 Weeks for the first round we have thrown in an 2.5 from the Xedos9 (Millenia) which had stock figures of around 170bhp. Did need to buy a complete MX-3 for it but does it matter ?

And it worked! The engine keeps on running and holds nicely even after the Time Attack round.

Some engine specs;
2.5 V6 KLDE @ 170pk stock (kl31 heads/curved-neck intake)
KL07 ecu (chipped by DTA Motorsports)
JE50 VAF
M2 Performance exhaust headers
K8 flywheel
6-puck stage3 clutch frictionplate
255l/ph Walbro pump
Estimated power output @ 180-185 bhp

And the rest ? Original Mazda! Alright, the suspension and so not, but engine-wise there is not much changed.

Photo time:) Click on it to get it bigger.

@ Circuit TT-Assen , 1 april Time Attack. With a different set of popup (or stay-down) lights (the other with the lights can't close because of the radiator) and running on the Yokohama Advan AD048 tires @ 15" Borbet alloys.
The BA in front of me is Max, not to be confused with Barreljan ;)

Image

And I even did make it to the finals in the Semi-Pro street class! Overall standings after the first round is 5th of an amazing field of 27 cars running for the championship!

Image

Now hope it's not going to breakdown. If all keeps well, we even can make progress for a long time with all the engine troubles. First progress is already made, I've ordered some new brake pads (EBC Yellowstuff) because I can't keep up with braking...

:D :D

wow amazing work... Do you find it better now with the v6? Also do you know if the car is faster around the track with the v6 or not?

Thnx!

Better, yes; it doesn't brake down on me ;) If it is better on the tracks? I guess yes because of the usable torque but I really? Don't know. When the turbo engine was running it didn't kept me going (intercooler piping kept on getting off) so I don't have any comparison. So in that case, yes faster but did not had the full potential of the turbo back then.

It is a very good competitor on the track this BG with the V6. With just a small margin lets say, 2.11.99 for me and a 2.12.09 for the BG, a tenth of a second... Hmm, and that with shitty brakes... ohmy

ps. on the last picture you'll see me right, the taillight is the only thing to see and next to it, me in the green shirt waiting for the Semi-pro street to do their inlap, hotlap and outlap 8)

Before the first time attack round I already had some gear changing issues. It was sometimes there, sometimes not. We had the idea that the shiftrod underneath the car (modified BG one) was not the correct length. So tried a good MX3 v6 one; no change in the problem.

Tried to sort it out today by guessing the gearbox was dying and removed the MX3 gearbox. With the prepping of the MX6 gearbox we had in the shop and swapping some sensors I found out what the actual problem was.

Sorry for the crappy picture quality

It seems the differential had eaten the gear on the speedo sensor.......

Image

So, time to get it a part

Image

Well, there's your problem! I can seeeee you

Image

Broken versus good

Image

It's good it didn't smashed up the whole gearbox
