Right, so i've finally managed to get some info out of the ECU with the diagnostic kit i got from MX5.co.uk, turns out i have to have the car running to get codes!!!

Anyway, i'm getting a code 8, which means possible open or shorted airflow meter, so whilst i go and retest to confirm the fault, i thought i'd get a bit of confirmation from the assembled masses....

....the airflow meter is the one that sits immediatly behind the airbox (if you've still got one) right?????

see when u shorten or lengthen the length of the pipe between ur AFM/air box/filter and intake, u change the characteristics of the engine performance

Its always best to keep the orig length, mark T knows more about it I think :D

Right, the Mitchell repair disk, mentions a PCME that the AFM is connected to, what the f*** is a PCME, i have a suspision its something to do with the ECU!!!! :S

I thought he said if you make the length of the intake to filter longer u make the car have ligher end power? and if u shorten it it makes lower end power?

if it helps at all theres a 323f gxi ba at elswood scrappy navy blue front end damage looks like a 1.8 but dont take my word it was stacked up ontop of another car and wasnt the easyest thing to get a look at all the meet is still there on the engine if ur interested ill go up with you mate cuz im lookin for a few bits.

It was a turbo, so he wouldn't have been talking about that. This is really an issue for normally aspirated (NA) engines.

According to my 'sources', a longer plenum gives better low end torque, which is what manufacturers tend to design almost all cars for these days :D

Yep, that sounds right and confirms what I said above. It's the individual intake runner lengths, not the whole intake length that affects the pulse tuning. The intake length will affect the resistance presented to the air going to the engine though.

Just got me a second hand AFM with intake pipe and airbox (for experimentation;) ) for £30, chuffin good price if you check out how much it costs on the EPC :D:D

No, sorry Adam, only ever seen one F with fogs in a scrappy, and one of those was broken :D

Tip on scrappies..... if you go to yards that don't specialise in a particular make, they tend to be WAY cheaper than specialists :D
