I guessed it was an ignition issue. Non-start, but spark plugs smelt of fuel.

Was looking around for a used distributor, but on my model it's a rare one, with two separate low voltage plug connections.

I decided to try a new condenser, as it was staring at me, fixed on the outside of the distributor body. Ordered one on the web.

The fixing screw was a pain to get out, but did it in the end, and car started first time!

I didn't realise there was a difference with the distributors, which model is it?

My BA is just an "ordinary" 1.5 pre-Ford GLX, but there are several different distributors for the 1.5s.
I have the T2T57372. (The number is fixed to the outside of the coil part, below the cap.)
Others have T2T57371 or B6BF18200A or T2T60371.

The connecting plugs are different!

I'm glad to know that, as I had no idea! I'll have to check that Sundance's spare matches.

Is this a pre-Ford/post-Ford thing, or just Mazda being Mazda?

Some BA's have Denso ECU, some have Mitsubishi ECU.
It could be related..

I've tried to establish this by browsing a lot of second hand sale ads, but can't fix an answer!
There seems to be an overlap in production year(s) for the different types.
Which is strange, because there is no way the wrong one will fit without changing the wiring loom!

So you know what to look for: My distributor has 2 connectors, one has a 3-pin and the other is a 6-pin.
Another type has only 1 connector, a 7-pin.
There may be other differences too, I'm not sure, so best get the correct type if you eventually need one for Sundance.

But do try the condenser first! It was only £5. A brand new full distributor is £150.

Could be ... my distributor says "Mitsubishi" on it.

The wiring diagram and the pinout for the ECUs are different between Mtsubishi and Denso, it could be the entire loom so the distributor pinout could be different.. 2 or one connectors etc..
