Hi guys and girls, im typing about a friends car.Now his problems (by his words) are:
When he starts the car everything is normal,he step on the gas a little and the gearbox get on 1-st and he drove off.Second gear switch fine and when it comes for third the diffrence between 2nd and 3-rd gear is 150-200 rpms.
After that 4-th gear doesn't switch at all. When on third and on steady rpms just enough to go to 4-th the car just tries but no go.. 4-th is not going in..
Another thing that made him an impression is that when he take his foot of the gas pedal the rpms goes down to 1000 like it's on neutral, but it's actually on D" direct position.Even when pressed HOLD button is the same.
If he put it on L" mode the car gets 1-st,2-nd,3-rd ok and like there is no problem the rpms are fine.. but 4-th is a no go again..
If he's on L" on second gear pressing HOLD gets him on 1-st right away and didn't switch more until he release the HOLD button.
I asked him is there any noticeable noises coming from the Gbox but he said that there is nothing that he could hear.

Is there some major problem with the gearbox or it's needing cleaning/change of oil,filters..? :dontknow: :dontknow:
Now i don't undestand much from auto gearboxes so that's why i translate everything like he said to me.Maybe there is something that he's doing wrong but i don't have the competence to tell him..
So please guys and girls if you know something about the symptoms tell us..

I know absolutely nothing about auto boxes but my first instinct would be to drain the old oil, flush the box with something and then re-fill with a fresh filter. That may help or maybe not.

I've done a bit of googling seeing that some guys have similar trouble if the gearbox oil pressure is low? I'd definately start with a chnage and flush tbh

I have the xedos 9 with auto box which I think is the same as ba, i was reading up on it when mine started to act a little funny and I discovered that unlike the manual box the auto box is supposed to have oil and filter change, i think it was at the same time as timing belt intervals but not sure if that was just a recommended time seeing as the car would be getting full service or whether it was manufacturer spec. I've still not done mine yet as the xedos needs new radiator and the gearbox cooler is built into the radiator so it'll get done at same time. The other thing it could be is the torque converter but if it's only 1 gear it's struggling with and pulls away ok I'd think it was more likely it just needs service. The auto box oil is a lot thinner than manual so I don't think it lasts as long

Don't know about automatic diagnosis either but check the fluid that comes out- if you have a friend who does know, get them to inspect it
1) Is it the correct fluid
2) Is there enough of it
3) is it "ok" or burnt/blackened/oxidised/discoloured/etc.
4) anything in the fluid particles, residue, metal etc

If it's an electronic auto you may get a readout and/or error code through the Mazda interface plug.

Good luck

Patrick
