Guys, i want to know if there is any way to move the rev limiter on my BA from 6500rpm/min to 7000 or 7500rpm/min??
The cut off (6500rpm) on 2-nd gear is 95km/h and i want to reach 100km/h without changin in to third gear because i lose precious time..
Please someone who know to type me some PM or just type here.
Thanks!

I don't think you'll gain much for increasing the rev limiter as you are way past the maximum torque and hp range.

Also, I think the Rev limiter is electronically set and since the ecu cannot be chipped I suppose it'll be hard to do anyway.

i just want to reach 100km/h on 2-nd gear that's all..
i know that there's not much power at that rpms but it will doo 100 without any hesitation just under 7200rpm..
as for the ecu, if it's stoping the electrical pulse to the injectors i think i may have found a way to avoid it, but not sure.. or it is just stoping the spark??
I'm not sure what it do when hit 6500rpm..
Someone HELP ME :happy7:

I'm sure the ecu cuts the fuel supply at the rev limiter rather than the spark!

You'll need a piggyback ecu to start playing with rev limiters etc

Im not sure how your going to do that without a piggyback ecu dude. If the ECU cuts the fuel supply or spark at the set rev limiter then surely this will need changing before you can increase the rev limiter?

Also, is 5km/h really going to make that much difference dude? Short shifter and a sharp transition should help :)

It will if you're trying to get a better 0-60 time!

That's how some manufacturers manage a great 0-62 (100kmh) time in an averagely slow car, just by getting there in 2nd gear - saves a change ;)

I completely agree! It would make it quicker to 60 by a slight margin but with the Z5 being rather slow anyway to 60 would it make that much difference?

Would it not be easier to do some work on gear ratios and look at swapping 2nd gear out for a slightly longer gear? (I have no idea whether this would work by the way - just a general query which might help :) )

This does not really relate but.......Having been driving for 52 years I remember engines without all this electronic gubbins. Now, could you take it all off, find an SU carb to fit, a coil and a distributor? Back in the day it was all so simple adjusting mixture screws and twiddling distributors. Not that I intend to try it but engines are engines beneath it all.....aren't they?

With bigger tires you might reach 62 mph in 2nd gear but you'll definitely get their slower as the larger diameter takes more power to get round.

Actually, there is an easy way. Well, "easy" in comparison...
The ECU is clocked by a quartz with a certain frequency (for eyample 4.00 MHz). If you exchange the quartz with a slightly faster one (lets say 4.20 MHz), the ecu will be clocked faster in relation to the engine inputs, meaning the ECU "thinks" the engine is revving less than it actually is. This pushes back the revlimiter a few hundred revs.
This mod is known for B-series engine ECUs, (MX3, MX5), not too sure about the Z series but might be worth looking into.
But be aware: this affects all ecu controlled parameters incl. timing and fuel injection, meaning the engine will run leaner. Usually the Mazda engines are running very rich anyways so you might be able to get away with it but please check AFR after the mod and use larger injectors ore more fuel pressure to compensate, if necessary.
And feel free to google the mod (esp in MX5 and MX3 forums).

Cheers

That's exactly what i had in mind, but wasn't sure will it work. Thanks HMT for cleaning that for me!
I wasn't sure if anyone had try it before, but now that you say this i will look what others have done and will be alot easier for me to do it! Thanks again!
