Just given the car a good deep clean and polish, including a going over with the caly bar.
Ive used it three, possibly four times now, and its looking a bit dull and grey rather than its fresh out the wrapper white.

At what point do i get rid and treat the car to a new bar? Im guessing not many(if any) uses left.

Did you use a whole bar???

You only need to use a small section, and if you do a full car with it, probably best to check it carefully before using it again. There is no hard and fast rule, but if it's full of bits, bin it

Hi Marc, yeah i used the full bar, however it was only a very small sized one, came as part of a selection box of Megs stuff.

I kept using mine until it stopped taking the crud off the car and became difficult to re-work into a usable lump.

I've had the same bar for a few years now. Take off the small bit needed for the clean. Keep the rest in a ziplock back to keep it from drying out.
I only really clay every 6 months or so.

Tip: Never use 'tar and insect remover' spray before clay bar'ing .. I made that mistake once and it turned the piece I had into what could only be described as a well chewed piece of stringy chewing gum!

What brand of tar remover do you use? I use something called "Sticky Stuff Remover", it's intended for household use (e.g. getting rid of labels, chewing gum, and yes, tar). It cleans sticky crud off the car just dandy and I don't recall having a problem claying, even after using it rather copiously. You dab it on, rather than spraying. It smells of oranges and costs a couple of £.

Always use a tar remover, and an iron x type product before claying!

Otherwise, you're expecting a lot more from your clay...

I used pound shop tar & insect remover, but I also think the clay bar wasnt that good either, it was ebay item that was shipped from China. I was using them together and it just turned into a soft gooey lump. Rookie mistake I guess!

I know the sticky stuff remover stuff you have, I've got a bottle too :P WD40 works well for getting rid of tar too.

where can i see or buy one of these clay bars got my attention here ? ant thing that protects my car from the elements i want for my 323.from what i have read i have to get this clay bar and how much does it cost cheers everyone. Nick Cara

Yes i no you welcomed me when i joined and said this can get quite addictive and you was right i am hooked mate,even gone and bought another great 323f ba 1.8 cant wait to pick her up just to see what the difference is 1.5 / 1.8 i love both but i have to make sure i choose right my new ba is grey and i love the colour i can see the potential with her.looks like i have only got to drop her and bit of detailing to her. all the best Nick Cara
