Exactly, it would be completey trivial, after all its front wheel drive and even with the toyota box and LSD, in my opinion anything more than 300 BHP is too much for a front wheel drive car to use effectively at the moment she is sooooo controlable on track and on the road

Considered and talked about it but its simply too much work, it would involve massive modifications to the interior of the car and many custom one off parts!
Although when that lottery win comes in haha

MX5 running gear... bit of duct tape, maybe some spit and kleenex, and boom pow: RWD conversion

The MX5 gear is a good idea because as its cheap and will bolt straight to the engine! Although i dont think its very strong, i would want to do all that work still with the fear of smashing gearboxes! plus the amount of cutting and carving involved would be immense!

The most likely gearbox conversion would be the "MR2" conversion to have bomb proof gearbox .... but then after all that work a "GT4" would bolt up the same except with a shaft pointing towards the back! so some tunnel modification, saddle tank fuel tank, rear subframe re-design, a rear diff and custom shafts and done

one day maybe one day!

MR2 gearboxes are far from bombproof...

The E153 gearbox may not be perfect but is a damm sight more bomb proof than the mazda G series! from what i've read it can handle 500Nm plus it has an LSD as standard

Get the GTX/GTR rear axle... (not the diff just the axle) Pull the engine and gearbox, axles out of the front,
and put it into the back. Done. Sort of...

A guy has done that with his Opel/Vauxhall kadett/?? Don't know... But it's reaaallly nice, but then again the
guy has a tuning company.

What a great weekend again this year!!!
Nathan & I would like to say a big thanks for all the comments made to us privately about our car, your appreciation makes all the hard work and frustration when things don’t go quite to plan all worthwhile!



What a fantastic surprise to win the lifetime achievement award; we were both overcome with emotion we couldn't look at each other, it would have been impossible to without welling up, so a speech would have been out of the question. So we will try to make amends here.

This build was started really by Nathan at 14 years of age finding the club site (maz323f.net then!) and following internet threads and pictures of modified F's both in the UK and worldwide! He showed me (Lee - Dad) and I've always wanted to modify a car but never been able to afford it as a younger driver. I've always had the belief that I'm not bad at DIY so I said to Nathan we could modify our F and so the father, son bonding began ("and the household DIY stopped!" - Jill, Wife/Mom). Initially Nathan did all the research and the buying - with Dad's money of course - and I lead the installation with Nathan looking over my shoulder.
As time went on Nathan got more and more hands on with the modifying, now he still does the research and the buying... but mostly leads with the installation as well - with me just advising on safety issues, oh and passing spanners... Oh and we still spend Dads money of course
We love to show the car off and privately pat each other on the back with what we have achieved to date. Nathan has learned so much from this project and I have enjoyed passing on what knowledge I had he is probably way ahead of me now. We are still buzzing with ideas, so here's to the next 8 years of modifying.

We would both like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has given advice and help from the club and you know who you are because you're probably fed up by now of calls, texts and PM's - to name a few (Stuartspel, AndyM, Matt, and Richard Hardesty)
