I won't be able to polish the whole rim though, so it will need to be a painted finish...and I'm not sure polished will suit the rest of the car...this is the rex, not the beej

Tried a bit of black centre / silver rim tonight...

the more observant will have noticed I also test fitted some new sideskirts...and I have swapped a tyre over, and put it on the front









With the arches and skirts...I am starting to really like the dark wheels...I think they'll be gloss black

Now you just need a pulsing front red light!

I think the graphite with a silver rim might be better.

Marc, what are the two bits on either side of the door, like the little patches that aren't color coded? Are they just where the skirts are stuck on?

I'm guessing they will be the same colour as the car eventually? Just looking at them bugs me haha

The skirts have some nasty vinyl on them - I imagine it would have been on the door too, fading from one end to the other - they are small circles, dark on one end, and light on the other, so this is my best guess...very 80s

It'll be an absolute pig of a job...they're like rubber adhesive - same sort of stuff that holds trims on with...and quite large...

gonna take a while to get them off, I might take them home...a job for evenings in front of the telly

Spacers are finally here...they are 1.25" thick, so should bring the wheels out...possibly too much with the fatter tyres on...so I might need to set up the mill and take a few mm off...the advantage of having access to a full machine shop

Coilovers??? That would be great...if the coils were attached to the dampers...

New suspension might be on the cards in a year or two...I'm doing this without selling the BJ to raise the funds...so it's a slow process...

Is the bore of the spacer larger than the hub too then? I'd be even less comfortable you could make some massive spigot rings - utilise that machine shop

You could do coilvers still You'd just fit the coilover in place of the shock, then leave the OEM spring seats empty (or choppety chop). VW Golf MK4 has seperate rear spring and shock, and you can fit a coilover kit

I haven't looked but if you can't get a coilover kit, you could "easily" just buy a set of cheap shocks, buy some gas shock inserts, buy the threaded sleeve, drill the cheap shock and drain it, chop the top off, weld the threaded sleeve onto the cheap shock body, insert the gas shock into the new threaded shock body, buy some generic coilover top mounts (think FK highsport style), perches and springs that fit, voila! DIY coilover kit

The amount of miles it does, I don't think I need to worry...no spigot ring on either, pretty much the same as no spigot ring on a fat wheel without the spacer really...

True true - as long as you tighten the bolts properly it should be fine, as the bolts on the wheel and the spacer should be tapered, so should self-centre and contrary to popular belief, it's not the hubcentric bit that takes the weight of the car - it's the friction between the two (or three when you have spacers) surfaces

Sod the coilovers, bridge port it! Is it done yet? Can I hear it yet? I've had a dry couple of months, that will most definitely get me going

This year will be cosmetic...next winter will be engine

it's had the air pump etc removed, which freed up some horses...and apparently very light porting...but I would like to half bridge port it and larger carb(s)...I might look out for a 13B from an FC, and tune the cr4p out of it

Had a test fit of the spacers tonight...

too much on the front...



so I have opted for a 5mm spacer, just to bring it out a bit



They fit well on the back though, although I need to fit the larger tyre on before I position the arch...

the rears look awesome and got to say the picture of the front ones all the way out didnt look bad but it might be different in real life. I think you might put them back on the front once you have slammed it a bit more though

Front wheels are too far out on the large spacers, as you steer, the wheels will hit the inner arches...5mm will have to do
I might try and reduce the arch a little, not sure yet

As for slamming it...it's not going to happen, as has been discussed already - it has been lowered, and there is already no gap between the tyre and the arch


Mark, I would try them on yours, but you only have 4x100 pcd, the rex is 4x114...

The wheels hit the inner arch? That's the only problem? Do you not have a hammer? My wheels did that on my BA on full lock with the spacers on - I just ignored it, I'm rarely at full lock anyway I've since removed the inner arches but it hasn't been on the road since
