It was actually suprisingly simple - the hardest part was access on the drivers side as there is about a foot between the car and the house

All the nuts and bolts are in labelled sealable bags - and i have pics to help with the reinstall

Thought i'd better update here with some pics as i've posted in the "what have you done" thread

So, am about a third of the way through routing this loom through the wings and cabin of the car.

Here is where i started, lined these connection blocks up with where they need to be



Then Cable tied the new loom to the existing loom in the arch



This is where it came into the car, i actually pulled a lot of the existing wiring through here so i could pass the new wiring through the Gromet (not a job i recommend to anyone )


And here is the loom draped across the "dash" area. need to route it behind the heater unit and then start plugging it in


I Have another loom to put in behind the heater units at the same time - that one needs a little soldering behind the dash and then also goes with this loom through the gromet on the other side of the car into the drivers arch

Then with that done i think i can put all the dash back in and finally sort out that rust in the engine bay and turn my attention to more "mechanical" things

As i said before i put my new custom instrument loom onto the "top" of the dash in the house, i havent any photos of that at the mo, but i may get some and post them up if anyone is interested

Ive got issues with IDing a connector, tried to check with somebody elses 1.8 but he had post ford and Ive got pre... different connector.

Its a yellow one with 12 flat pins... proper data connector looking thing,
I believe its somewhere on the back end of the engine...?

But I couldnt find it at all... Im now 3 connectors away from splitting up the 1.8FBA loom for the engine bay electrics and then will use the GTX loom for the megasquirt stuff.

Let me know about the seat again and Ill sort it out!

TODAY

Passenger wheel arch liner back in, drivers side out

Once it was out i realised that i didnt need to run all of the wires in my new loom down the wing (not the one i was installing but the other one that went from behind the dash and down the drivers wing ) - so i took it back in the house and removed the excess wiring before starting to put it in

Tomorrow i get ready for my camping weekend and hopefully manage to unclip all the original loom driverside so i can push the grommet through, push all my wiring through it and clip it all back in place

Then next week will be some in car soldering and then i can put the whole dash back in and take some photos

All credit to you Matt. I wouldnt have the guts to try something like this

today i pulled out my heater units - passed my new wiring through the drivers side wing grommet and then started putting all the new looms into the loom bracketes behind the dash

Put the central heater bit back in - bolted in as it wont need to come out again

(hopefully) Tomorrow i'll clip the "stray" wires into the connection blocks they need and then look to solder in the 2 wires that need splicing into the main front loom

Once that is done the dash can go back in

No photos at the mo as not a lot looks different from the last ones (as i pulled everything our and then put it back in again ) - but i'll take some progress shots tomorrow as i start to put things back together

Ok, so here is the update
Wiring is all in place - all wires clipped in or soldered (not many soldered )



I pulled the heater out again, opened up the little bracket things and routed the wiring through them, plugged it all in where necessary.

The worst ones were the connectors that are under the heater unit, had to take all of that apart, and the door connectors, had to try and get the wires into the door connectors without being able to unplug the connectors

Anyways, dash, airbag, instrument cluster all back in
Slight problem, i've misplaced some of the trim screws so off to scrapyard in the week to sort them out




Next step is to wire in a sensor in the bumper and then i can turn my attention to under the bonnet for a bit

Yep that is why i have the Custom instrument loom, and what one of the custom front looms is for

It is it's own circuit, uses a couple of sensors around the car and only needs a little soldering to fit it into a UK BA instrument loom (after removing the heater wiring)

In the boot and where the back seats are supposed to be is all the piping to go under the bonnet - will leave that till last, got the brake and clutch lines to look at next

And i still need to get a clutch

Well i've had to remove the wiper mech and the master cylinder to be used on my daily driver, so now that i've started on the brake stuff i think i'll keep working on it over the next couple of weeks

today i put a new master cylinder and vac assist on the car today

Hopefully replace the brake and clutch lines soon and get some machining done to finish off me brakes
