Ayrton, its the wrong colour for you mate, but thanks for the kind words, but a long way to go yet, but we are getting there slowly, and correctly. No short cuts or bodges on this one.

Another busy day, polished the door jams, stripped the bumpstrips of the doors and then cleaned the sticky stuff off, what a job that is. Then stripped the door handels off to polish the doors, inside and out, Got the front door done and refitted, will do the rears tomorrow. Also had to treat a small section of rust on bottom of one rear door, hopefully that will sort it as it was just surface, if not, have four spare door from which to cut and weld a rust free section if / when needed. Thanks guys, just amazes me how long it takes to get thing sorted, but then I am a "pain in the butt" perfectionist. First time I have ever polished a car, what a mission, probably spent 5 hours just on the door jams and 2 front door. They are looking good, but not perfect, have some touch ups to do on the paint, and once it is on the road, Marc will be giving it a "propper job" after which I will hopefully have learned from him how to do it correctly, and then maintain it correctly.

Today I finished polishing the rear doors then refitted them to the car, then washed the spare windows and refitted them till the originals have had the scratches polished out. Then fitted the speakers, doors now fully rebuilt and refitted with exception of mirrors and door cards which will only be fitted after mirrors are painted in 10 days time.

Came home from work and stripped the rear bumper to check the bend in the rear wing and bumper. Going to have to do some body work here, but not serious, should pull strait fairly easily. Will need to get a new vent for the drivers side as it is not there, and possably get a new rear bumper if there is a white one at a reasonable price. Current one was formally green is useable but not ideal.

Been at work this afternoon, so not much time to work on the car, but I did strip the mirrors ready for painting and also the door handel, stripped and modified them so that they can be dissassembled and assembled anytime needed. Will do a Guide on stripping them over the weekend.

Big fan of your work Shayne. It's a real insight to the insides Would love the time & space to do this but not all of us are so fortunate! Having said that it's been at least 3 days since you stripped and cleaned something. I hope you're not getting lazy on us!

What's that vent for on the rear corner?

Pete, thanks for the kind words, and I hope that what I do and post is an encouragement for others. No, I am not being lazy at all, back at work and do long days 12 / 13 hours, so no real chance to do too much unless on lates, when I have the morning free. But got a five day weekend comming up, so there will be more done to post here.

That vent allows air to leave the car, but is a one way vent, so water or wind cant actually enter the car through it, but with it missing, any spray from the wheels can enter the boot area. Hopefully have that section sorted and a new vent fitted over the weekend.

Yeah Paul, just the handels and mirror covers that are there, the mirror mount and the handel surrounds will be polished black.

Those 2 stone chip guards fron the wheel arches are being done gloss black as they are badly stained, but will be looking for a good set of standard ones.

Should have them fitted sometime this weekend as i am on a 5 day weekend again from Friday.

Nice one, I've heard repainted handles wear pretty quickly though just an FYI and stone chip guards always fade badly, doing mine soon too, you repraying the higher brake light too?

The handels wearing quickly is something I am aware of, so if it is as good as I think it will be, I will have another set done with a hard wearing paint, or just keep a second set that I can swop over when nessasary and redo the others so that I always have a good set.

Quick update;

Working this afternoon so not much time, but have done final coat of white on the handels after water papering, now backing in the airing cupboard, then wil start to layer clear laquer on them.
Mirror covers had a few blemishes and pin holes, so have filled them with touch-up paint which will be water papered when dry, and if correct, add more coats of white before clear laquering.

Cant wait for the weekend to get into some more sorting of the car, the bigger jobs that need more time.

Busy day again, beside continueing with the painting of the handels and mirror covers, I have managed to pull the rear corner back into place, straitened the vent hole, fitted the tail light to check the correct positioning of the wing, also fitted the bumper and the wing is spot on now. Will need to do some filler on small dents when the arches are cut out and welded in, but otherwise very happy with the results.

Removed the bumper brackets that would come off, (soaking the others with penatrating oil) then wired brushed them before treating with Kurust. Will paint these shortly. The main brackets will be powdercoated once off.

Daz, unfortunately I have to, but leave that for the early hours and only what I need, and use the day time to the max. Besides, doing the car and seeing the progress is so motivating.

The rear number plate light bracket is really badly corroded, not sure how long it will last even though it has been treated and will be repainted. So am going to try make a new one by copying the patern onto a piece of flat sheet metal and then bend it to shape.

Well, due to work I havent done much, but have been fixing the wrecked door handels, think they will be ok and fitted next weekend. Pics when fitted and finished. However I have bought some items for the car a few weeks back, they arrived today, delivered by Dominic. Brand new Spax -40mm springs, still boxed and sealed when arrived and a fitted Mazda boot carpet, in near perfect condition, just needs a good clean.

Well, finally got the doorhandels sorted I think, after another week of sanding and laquering to get the marks left by the towel out. Should be dry tomorrow and will post some pics then, just dont want or need to get shit on them again while taking pics when wet.

Think thats a brilliant idea, thanks mate, I will be doing that as OEM is not the way I am going on this car, although I wont be going made with mods, nor bent on OEM, if something is better, more practical or nicer, then I will certainly change from OEM, so long as it enhances the car.

Goodies I love having a nice pile of parts to go on the car.

I've had my spax springs for months now and still haven't fitted them! Will hopefully be getting them done in the next few weeks or so
