Morning all - as you are maybe aware I own a SP20 BJ - unfortunately the rear brakes pads and discs are different size to the UK ones - they are 260mm discs and the pads are smaller.

After much investigation I can not get these pads in the UK at all, Mintex etc list them but do not stock them. So I think the only option is to buy fropm abroad, looking at USA its phenominal postage charges for a set of rears at £180USD.

If anyone knows of any sites that may sell these or where I could buy from other than USA please let me know. The BJ is off the road until further notice at present.

Search for the big brake conversion. Unsure if it apply s to yours, basicly it changes callipers, discs and pads to Europe spec. I know its not a cheap as sourcing parts for yours ( or will it with shipping costs ) but might help you out in the future .

Are the 1.8 prefacelift rears the same as the facelift ones? I thought they were smaller..... but I'd presume you've looked at the 1.8 brakes as an option.

Cheers - I will have a look at brake conversions - I had already looked into converting to UK spec BJ rears - problem is going to be getting hold of the pad carriers.

1.8's are different unfortunately - might try Doug, just depends when he is on dry land lol.

Will have another look on the US sites and see if I can get postage any cheaper. - Suppose I could always ask JohnFamiliarsport to get me some from Japan

Cheers John - if the pads I have now ordered from US are wrong then I will look into nengun site. Managed to find a set of pads for $55 delivered from US - just hope they are right and that my discs will have enough life in them until I can get new discs.

Not been able to get anything in the UK as yet.

It appears none of the EU market mazdas uses those rear calipers and brake pads. The only option is to order the pads from the dealer (part number BKYT-26-43ZB), or get them from Japan, Australia, or US. Rock Auto ships internationally, you can try them also. Their prices are competitive. I prefer to use Akebono brake pads as they are OE quality and provide similar performance to the original pads.


If it were me though, I'd upgrade to the larger 280mm brakes instead. Not only will you have to stop dealing with the stupid allen head brake piston retractor screw (and of course the immense hassle in importing brake pads), you get better braking. The allen head setup breaks easily from rust, and from reading many threads on here, it seems rust is inevitable in the UK.

You can find used rear calipers off a GF/GW 626. If you wish to upgrade the fronts also to the bigger ones, look for a diesel GW 626 estate, the GF saloons will only have the same brakes as what you have and PFL BJ sports.

Just for info I ordered some pads from USA ebay $50 delivered and they were the right ones - the discs I need are 260mm ones and I have yet to source these at a reasonable price - I will get new pads and discs next time I need them.
