:) Hi, I'm new to this site. I joined as I need some advice on whether the Mazda 323 gxi .1.5 is a suitable towing vehicle. Has anyone got any experience with this?

What will you be towing? I would of thought it would be pretty hard on the clutch towing stuff wih the 1.5 but i dont have a towbar so can hardly comment.
Only person i can think of wit ha tow bar and a i.5 is steven, might be worth a PM to him

Not advisable to tow with the 1.5, i have towed a caravan and top speed with that was pretty much 45 mph depending on the hill gradient. The engine has to work extra hard being a smaller engine and i reckon it would drastically shorten the life of the engine if you have to tow for a long distance. A bigger engine would ideally be needed and preferably a diesel

In short you can tow a caravan but i really wouldnt advise anything above a small trailer.

EXERT FROM GOOGLE

Diesel or petrol?

The main advantage of diesel is the greater "punch" you get when pulling away at low speeds. This punch is called torque, and you want as much as possible when towing, so you can pull out quickly. With a petrol car, the engine has to speed up much faster, meaning you hold on to each gear for longer in order to pull away in good time. Towing with a petrol car on the motorway will feel just as good as with a diesel, but generally, you get more distance for your money with a diesel engine.

Hope this helps :D

We were told even our v6 (when we had her) wasn't any good for towing.
Not because the engie wasn't man enough, the whole car just wasn't heavy enough  .
That was why we had to buy a Mondeo estate, which thankfully we sold and went on to buy Blizzard :D

:( Thanks for all your quick replies. Looks like I may have to change cars which I didn't want to do as I love my Mazda, I've had it 6 years.

But don't sell your F .
If you were thinking of getting a caravan then my advice would be
