Hello. This is my first post in the forum and i wish i could be more help full, however i don't understand much of mechanic.. First i would like to know what type of fuel you guys use in your car, i mean, i use 95 octane, because its cheaper but I'm afraid its bad for engine or could take to a decrease of performance... if you think i should use a higher octane fuel, please tell me how to change... I have an 89 323f 1.6l glx, i discovered this forum 1 hour ago and it's already been very useful, I'm already thinking of buying a new air filter and make some of the mods that i saw here.. thanks

welcome to the club, I've always run mine on 95 never had any problems. some members here use 98 as they claim it gives slightly more performance and helps to protect the engine. entirely up to you as to whether you think that its worth the extra cost!

Thanks, Ben_P, i was afraid it could damage the engine, i was wondering if you could give me your opinion about the consumption, usually 20l only gives for about 160-165 km.. and i try to do an economical driving, not too fast and not too slow...

when i had my GT the economy was appalling, i use to get 230-240 miles per 45 litres. how ever my previous 1.6 was much better on economy but not as excitingly fast! can't remember what figures i was getting now, but 35mpg was obtainable regularly.

Once again thanks, i see that your consumptions are better than mine, i think that the best thing i can do is take it to the mechanic, spend some money but get the motor tuned... there's just one more thing, its about the vent, it only works when the key is in the ''acc'' position, usually i wait about 3-4minutes till it stops working, is there any way to keep it working even with the the key off?..

The red fan is the standard one and comes on when the engine is hot enough, not sure about the green one, I think that's a mod

Personally I use the cheapest fuel there is and I don't have any need to go really fast, it's my MPG I'm concerned about these days... Don't think my accelerator pedal has hit the floor in the last 6 months

so i can use 98 on my car, without tuning anything?? i always use 95 and i can put 98 even with the rest of 95 on tank??..

hey guys, let me tell you something, with about 19litres of 95octanane i used to do about 165km... now i use 98octane and 16litres of gasoline i make about 185km, lolol with less 4litres i make more 20km.. i i really feel a diference in the aceleration, not in top speed but its more powerfull for sure..

How does that compare in money terms?

i always put 20€ of gasoline, and the 95octane usualy gets up to 19litres... the 98octane with the same 20€ only 16 litres.. but in compensation i make more 20km with the 98.. so in money terms is better...

Higher octane is usually around 5p per litre more expensive.

Since ive had the 323 I have only used Shell Optimax/V-Power fuel at 99Octane which i believe is the highest octane fuel available from a UK Petrol Station.....I think Tesco also do 99RON

The higher octane Shell fuel is said to be better for your engine whith new chemicals added which help clean your engine & allow for smoother running.

Shell V-Power Petrol & V-Power Diesel is used in F1 cars and the Audi diesel Le-mans cars!

I use the higher octane, but pricey but I think it's better for performance and it sounds and runs smoother.

95/98 is good for your engine. the lowest our fuel is 91 (New Zealand) and mazda's seem to run fine as in japan the use 100 ron. so if you have a turbo its stops denotation (pinking noises then destroys engine) but for a 1.6 glx 91 would be fine. the computer in fuel system will make the adjustments for the lower octane fuel.
