it is a fastback as mazda call them which i think is really a hatchback(however looks kinda like an estate as Neil F will tell you)

the chassis code is BJ, im not sure if it will be a facelift or prefacelift at that age.......one of the BJ owners will tell ya

not sure on the mk thingy though :S

It is a face-lifted Bj 323f. 5 DOOR HATCHBACK and NOT AN ESTATE!!

As while on the hudd's meet it was pointed out by afew BA owners that the boot in a bj is slightly...smaller :thumbright:

Probably a crossover car at that year.
You'll have 2 reverse lights, and facelift front lights.
The later cars have one reverse light and its round.
Read my siggy, it'll tel lyou its a non-estate. :D
Welcome in mate. :thumbleft:

Am going to resurrect this old thread....but seeing that i started it that should be ok...

I want to try and find out if i have a Mk5 or a Mk6, and what years...i.e... ( 10/1994 to 12/2003 ) or ( 10/1998 to 12/2003 )

The reason i want to know is that i would like to get something from Halfords, and it keeps throwing up these two variables.

What do i need to look at to determine what it is?

Thanks

98 - 03 is the Bj chassis, what youve got
94-98 Ba chassis..
unsure why its reading 94-03 )

Thanks for that errnee....

So the BG, BA and BJ are all different chassis depending on year?

One other thing it keeps asking me is if it is a fastback. Is that what the F stands for in 323F.?

How do i find that info?

Thanks

edit....so going on the info you gave me this is what it brings up...

MAZDA 323 HATCHBACK MK6 5DR F (10/1998 to 12/2003)

Sound right to you?
yep sounds right to me... so... what you ordering ?
ok...Was all set to order the mazda roof bars ( still am if this dosen't work ) and have just seen on ebay a halfords set for a mazda 323. The halfords set consist of the bars ( ref 401 ) and a fixing kit ( ref K07 ).
I was just making sure that the fixing kit would go on my car.
Trouble is if i click the mk6 323 f 98-03 model on the roof bar section of the halfords website, it does not show the halfords bars only the thule ones. Having said that the thule bars are the same for the Mk6 aswell as the Mk5. So it stands to reason that the halfords ones will fit as the thule ones fit both.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

I hope you can understand this...

nobody who drives any form of 323 ever uses "mk" numbers, I've only heard of this from some MX-5 and RX-7 people... so halfords or anyone who tries to use this scheme on 323s are ridiculous and stupid to say the least!

If the thule ones fit, then the equivalent hellfrauds ones should fit too...

Don't understand the Mk5 / 6 thing though... dont think Mazda use it, so why the fook does anyone else??? sockcookers

The Mk. 5/6 thing will come from the 323 range, not just the F range.
Not everyone that shops in Hellfrauds wil lbe familiar with the BG BA BJ BF etc.... codes, so the spotty teenage member of staff will ask a year, and they'll go by that.
Nowt wrong with that, as long as you eventually get the right bits.
Ask for help from staff, they'll try them on your car before you buy if you ask them to. :thumbleft:

Tried the Hellfrauds bars and am not happy how they sit on the car.
On the KO7 kit it does state BA and not BJ. Will get these back on ebay and treat myself to the mazda ones.

Thanks all

edit....Neil F, sorry to keep pestering you.

Your Mazda bars...are they both exactly the same or do they specify a front and back.
Reason i ask is when i put the Halfords ones on, the front bar was not level as it was following the slope of the roof.

The mazda bars are slightly different lengths, and are marked for front and back.
remember I actually have the 626 ones, which I've shortened to fit the 323F. The feet fit perfectly though. :D

Got the Mazda bars yesterday and tried them.

Love them......should have got them from the start and not spent lots of time pissing about with inferior products.

£78.66 from dealers

Thanks all... :D :D

nice one mate :)

yep, sometimes it's best to just spend the money...and unusually in this case the genuine mazda bits are reasonably priced

Always check the dealers as a matter of course anyway.
I once shopped around for a downpipe for a Cavalier SRi, ended up geting it from the dealers for £14!!!

Always used to be that the dealers were about double the price of anyone else

Anyone know what the maximum load is for the Mazda bars?

75kg or 100kg is in my mind for some reason.

Seem to have mislaid the info that came with them..

edit: Found it. For a 323 its 75kg

Yup, its 75kg.
I think that might be the limit for most roof stuff, my roofbox is also limited at 75kg. :dontknow:
I'd imagine there would be quite a healthy safety margin though.

I have a set of roof bars, they came off my nissan terrano, they fitted my ford focus, and they now fit my BJ sport! :D

I have tried them and they get a very good grip, the feet are at the right angle for the roof too.

They are Mont blanc if that helps
