What filter did you go for as I had a look and seen quite alot to choose from?

Indeed there is a plethora of kits Go for a universal one that takes your fancy and has got good reviews, or take a look through the garage to see what others have got under the bonnet. Only K&N and Jetex make kits that are specific to the mazda 323f (someone correct me if im wrong...) so if you want something else, or a 'closed' kit, pick a universal one

Matt (creator of this intake system and guide) has a K&N, and Rich used to have a Jetex i believe (well, he wrote the guide on fitting one!)

Got my 'Stephens' intake fitted yesterday, with the Apiro and CAF to the undertray. Tested last night, tidied up and tightened this morning. Went for a long drive today and bloody hell... the pickup is unbelievable! Definitely a lot more responsive, climbs through the revs with ease now, no struggling at all. Found that 5th gear is much more responsive as well, where as before it was simply an economy gear.

Also the Apiro's sound fantastic, quiet when creeping around in low revs but completely opens up when you stick it.

To be fair, i have gone straight from the stock air box (with resonator box removed) to this, so I suppose it's more of a double whammy in terms of performance. Maybe an AndyM intake is on the cards now for that extra cold air

well i started mine tonight but as its a CDA im using i run out of room pretty fast so i think im gonna pass on the 45 degreee bend pipe and put the MAF in there instead otherwise i can't connect it to the CDA as i need 4 couplers not 3.

itll do for me as any lower and the cda is like at the undertray alost ill finish it tomorrow and see how it all fits if i dont use the 45 deg bend itll be for sale

what is the diameter o those aliuminium pipes. I tried to measure yesterday on my car, but didn't have the right tools, so ended up by measuring approximatelly 60mm. Is this correct?

They're supposed to stainless steel, not aluminium

And the first post of this thread by Matt says, the diameter should be two and a half inches

Murray - could you not cut down each end of the 90 to get some space back?

the clips are about 2pound each, any one know anywhere cheaper?

If we get enough people interested i am happy to head a 'group buy' bring kits to jae (which would enable them to get almost anywhere in the country)

Might be pesauded to go ahead with smaller numbers if people think they will sell at jae.....

is £2.20 a clip, but postage is 75p for the first one and 20p extra for each extra one ordered

i dunno how postage works withe the performance silicone place so the ebay one may be cheaper or might not

Noticed bends came in value 8 packsso totted up that with 8 sets of everythig else all shipped to one address, works out cheaper that way no negotiantions, if any one wants to try and negotiate with coupler people please do.

getting rid of tight rubber pipes and replacing them with smooth free flowing pies will always quicken responce...

ive found with mine now ive had the resonator box away it picks up quicker at speed, when it used to need a drop of a cog, now it doesnt!

finally got mine to work with a little advice from andy and stu, nice1 boys, an thanks to rich an jam for gettin my hose clips.... and mazda dave for saying he doesnt like my couplers....... and of course young mr stephens.......








i have to admit it has lost abit of its roar but thats probably to do with the cone planement

Whay are you using stainless steel? Aluminium is much lighter..

it also bends and dents easier, especially with a weight on the end of it

Stuartspel how did you connect that pipe to the intake? I finally have all the parts n want to fit it tomorrow but not sure how I'm gunna do it!

You must be on about the Idle Air Intake pipe..........? I drilled a hole in the dide of my induction pipe, them fitted a rubber grommet to ensure the IA pipe fitted snug

Which I'd drilled it underneath though instead of at the side......

Lucky 1.8s don't have any mine is sorta fitted, just need to sort out bracket!

I've done it! Pipe proved a little tricky, didn't have a big enough bit so tried doing lots of holes joined together. First hole went through fine then the rest wouldn't, was as if I was drilling onto a weld.Anyhow, I covered the holes up and decided that using the hose connecter from the original intake I would cut a hole in the coupler and push it in. This I done to then find the bottom pipe wouldn't reach! Not having the right size pipe of that length was a pain but I found some red silicon hose that fitted nicely inside the original pipe and the intake(This is a temporary fix). So now looks and works fine! Will post pics later. As for performance I haven't noticed any difference but thats probably because I have so much done already!

i have to say with this intake and CDA ive noticed quite a big difference in mpg and a bit of performance also not bad!

think it might crack high 10's to 60 now seeing as its already 11.3 to 60.70 it just pulls great for a 1.5 its wrong!

well the best increase was the mpg, before i used to get 240-270 everyday driving today i got 304 to just under 1/4 (light never came on before i filled up) ive got receipts somewhere to check how many litres but what a difference! 304 instead of 240-270 and i was thrashing the car way more than usual to test the intake

nah no problems just make a hole for the temp sensor i just made one in the side of my coupler and pushed it through lol the hole is slightly small so it makes a nice tight fit, but you could make a wee rubber grommit instead if you wanted it more neat
