Should have some after the week-end. This happened just in time - petrol is going up 42c next Wednesday to R5.02 a litre. Thats about 42p a litre !!!!!

Hmmm... perhaps from Smotter's comments regarding the safety and road quality issues in SA they SHOULD charge 90.9p per litre instead and end up keeping more drivers in their cars rather than in caskets: more TAX revenue that way. :lol:

I'd love to move to SA, but personally I like being able to stop at a red light and not getting shot in the face! And lets not forget the taxis, oh and the lack of MoT = deathtraps roaming the streets! :lol:

That is another way of looking at it. And regarding the traffic lights, it must be nice for you guys to be able to drive through a green light and not expect to be taken out by someone going the other way through a red light ...

Great News !!!

Took the tappet cover off this morning, and Bingo ! Found that it WAS the dreased OTOS (One Tooth Out Syndrome) ...

Spent the next couple of hours taking various objects off the left hand side of the motor (from the front, if you're facing towards the back off the car ..... ) untill I got to teh cam-belt tensioner - loosened it, reset the timing (Correctly) and put everything back together and Hey Presto ! I've got nearly twice as much power at low revs, and considerably more than I had at high revs. And that's after guessing the ignition timing !!

I'll be getting her back to VanderLinde's soon for proper tuning, and (I should think) far more satisfactory Dyno readings !!

Hey Smotter.

Can you please elaborate on the OTOS thing and also what should the timing actually be? Then, if you could buddy, a little info on the ignition timing would be handy!

I'm in discussion with GForce Performance ( a Dastek Unichip dealer / fitter near me ) and I'd like some info to hand before I further this....

OTOS - There are a number of recorded cases on this site of people taking their cars in for cambelt replacement and getting them back with the cambelt mounted 1 tooth (or even 2 teeth) out, meaning the valve timing is all gone to pot ... Probably partly due to the fact that you can't look straight at the timing marks without a mirror, because the fender is in the way. I'm pretty sure I bought mine with the cam timing out !

Ignition timing is another story - there's two connections on the diagnostics port that have to be shorted to over-ride the ECU ignition adjustment, before you can set the ignition timing. There are posts about this somewhere ...
