OK OK OK . . .

Well Chaps - 'Fraid it's number 1 - Very disappointing results .....

According to the chap who did it (Saun van der Linde) - my car is running way under power, and the Dastek only gave me an increase of approx 6% at 6000 rpm - increased from 57Kw to 61 Kw. According to him, standard should be around 62 Kw (at the wheel, as opposed to 93 Kw at the crank). After some discussion, we agreed that probably someone in the past has put the timing belt in a tooth out. Unfortunately, this conclusion was only arrived at about 16:30 on Thursday afternoon, just before the Easter week-end.

Anyway, I'm going to call him first thing Tuesday morning to make an appointment to have that timing checked. Hopefully by then (on Monday) I'll have checked it myself to see if there's a problem there. If there is a problem, I'll get her back to VanderLinde's ASAP to have the timing set professionally. (As he pointed out, the distributor runs off the camshaft, so if you move the cam timing, you stuff up the ignition timing !) Also, if there is a need to reset timing, he'll put her back on the Dyno afterwards to reset the Unichip.

On the plus side, the tourque has increased about 10% at lower revs - i.e. from 67 to 75 at 2000 rpm (Nm, I think, although the chart doesn't specify ...) Enough to notice better pull-off at low revs.

In the meantime, I did manage to fit new discs and pads at the front, and overhaul the left front caliper which I found to be leaking when I did the discs. I was going to check the cambelt timing then, but wound up doing the caliper instead.

Anyway, there is an improvement, but not what I hoped for, although there does appear to be a reduction in fuel consumption ... (Yeah BIG deal :( .....)

Well hope it gets sorted out. Interesting to see that its underpowered - makes you wonder :?

As long as it all gets sorted eventually, it should be worth it. At least you've found a potential problem already rather than later on

All the best

Joe
