Hi my problem is the passenger door does the same as your drivers door, but some little c**t has used a pick gun on it to get in and steal my radio and cd's and have damaged the little sliver of dust protecting metal or plastic and I think I've pushed some bits into the lock. If I sort something out I'll PM you

This happened me a few months ago and then a few weeks later it happened on the other door so since summer everytime I get into the car I have to open the boot, pull a tape i have connected to the rear door, open the rear door and reach in to the front door and then finnaly get in and to get out I have to close the central locking on the drivers door, climb over the middle into the passenger seat open the passenger door get out lock the passenger door and off I go so if you find out anything plz plz plz let me know before I go insane

The metal flaps that cover the keyhole often break and fall inside the hole, preventing the key turning.

solution: take it to Mazda and get them to repair it, works 95% of the time. Or you may need a new lock. 5% of the time.

I had a talk to a mazda mechanic, apparently its common.

There is a world of difference between Mazda garages in terms of price! for the cleaning out of the lock i had one quote of £60, and one of £20! for the same job!!

I haven't forgotten about this, but I only just looked at it this weekend.

I'm going to try and do a tech post on this if I can dust off some tech drawing skills and get it sorted. Stripping the lock is reasonably easy and clearing it out too so it shouldn't take too long for me to do I'll let you know

Just a heads up. I had the same troubles last year when someone put sand in my locks. I retro fitted remote locking and an alarm as I didn't want to pay the big bucks Mazda quoted me for a new set of locks.

It was easy to install as you can attach the lock/unlock from the alarm directly to the two wires connected to the microswitch on the door locks. Mazda told me about this.
I have found the 'Lock' to be a little tempramental but the unlock works every time.
It has been recommended to me to connect the lock/unlock to the actuator in the drivers door - which I will do when the weather gets better. This method requires you to remove the inner door skin which is a bit more time consuming.

Also - I noticed someone said they lock the car from the inside and jump over to get out of the passenger door. To get around this, open the drivers door and hold the little button that turns the cabin light on/off. This will allow you to lock the central locking with the drivers door open.
