Short Shifter Fitting Guide

I didn't write this, but I figure it's pretty valuable. Found it floating the net, was looking for a diagram of how the bushings go back together and found this bit of gold for anyone apprehensive about fitting a short shifter:

See im sure you didnt have bushes that were two different sizes under the car mate.... if they were different there was a tiny difference. Worth checking tho that if they are different they are in the right way round?

Wonder where you'll be this weekend before Hobsons!?

I wonder too... Begin's with 'Be' and ends with 'n'. If not, I'll be slipping the lads at Kwik-fit a fiver to use their ramp for half hour.

The bushes are handed, and only fit one way

in which case they're already in the right way - Matty - its the white bits inside that you need to look at...

They are the TWM bushes though, the kit you have might be different :dontknow:

Nope. This is the kit and everything that came with it:

It must be the white bits inside that are causing the problem then...

What a brilliant guide. My kit came with some big round bushy things, don't know what they were for though, just used the originals. Also in the guide it says to remove the plastic inserts at the bottom of the original lever, haven't got a clue why as you don't use these on the short shifter?!

Doesn't appear to. I made sure everything I took off went back in the same way I took it out. Think the big round spacers are for the mx3?

No, you don't need to take the old bushes out for the TWM kit either, no idea why they say to do that :dontknow:

did you take yours out Matty, that would give you lots of side to side play...

Not 100% sure, will get it up in the air over the weekend and take a look! All my kits at home and I'm stuck in Watford until friday now.

Fitted this to a few BJs, seems to fit well, should fit the 1.5 no probs

Just make sure that when you're taking the bolts out of the heat shield, you don't f*** the captive nuts like I did!

Now my cross members are filled with epoxy resin, and the damn heat shield is still rattling!

i shall be buying my self this item once i have my car sorted from my little dink

!

i noticed alot of side wobble when in any gear
is this due to clutch wearing or the bushing's wearing out ? as it is a 11 yearold car i would think it was bushing's ?

I'd see no reason why not? worth a punt at £20 or so anyway...you'll easily sell the kit on if it doesn't
