rite people i intend to get my clutch sorted by JAE and few other mods...



After doing a few searches and research its suggested that while i get my clutch sorted out i should:

- Change thrust bearing
- Change gearbox oil
- Replace Friction plate with new one
- Replace crankshaft oil seal
- skim flywheel


is there anything else they can do while the car is there?

my famous soldier of a clutch is still slipping but its getting worse, some people say it just needs adjusting and others say just get a new one

bare in mind im going down the performance route soon with port n polishing etc... so is it advisable to get a heavy duty clutch or will stock be fine?


Now moving on to the flywheel..

I can get the flywheel skimmed while getting the clutch sorted but im not sure what happens to the flyweel?? and also if im going down the perfomance route and want a quicker accelerating car surely i need a proper light flywheel? as appose to just skimming it?

ive searched the web for a light flywheel for the 1.5 but didnt find anything at all and i suspect having a custom made one wud be way too expensive


last question... say i did get a really light flywheel and put it on my stock engine (with decat) wud i see a deff improvement on acceleration?

I'm not 100% positive, but a ligtened flywheel is better for a very tuned engine the needs to make peak power, but you sacrifice torque for it, which, on a 1.5 iswhat you need lots more of!! :D

If you've got GT4 or 1, 2, or 3 for that matter, you can easily test this, just by a car, leave it stock, go put some times down, head back to the garage, whack on a ligtend fywheel, do some more runs, calculate the difference, try to use a car camparible in power too :D:D

I think for the effort, it's not worth the bother. It'll hinder your idle - depending on how far up the performance route you go.

My clutch isn't very 'sharpe' does this mean I have to change it?

I think to replace std. clutch with HD one and lightened flywheel your engine would have to be at its max internally performance wise Ezeegee - save the money for the other work you intend to do

Im doing the flywheel myself soon. There is only gain in it. What u will have to avoid though after doing it is slow gear shifting because since its lighter it will lose its momentum more quickly but the car will accelarate faster with a lighter flywheel.

Just don't take too much off or you could risk having it break up ... which would be messy!

whats the process of skimming then mateys????

You'd need to find someone with a milling machine/lathe i'd guess chap, small engineering firms are your best bet i'd wager

well i looked around abit and came up with this. Im hoping that it fits our z5. It says mazda protege 1.5litre 95 - 98 which seems about right.

By the looks of that, the 1.5/1.8 use the same clutches :D
