TUNING WHAT CAN I DO

I have the 1.5 ba F and i really want to tune it up, i want as much horses as i can get from it any suggestions to help. could i fit a turbo? or what about different air intakes intercoolers etc. any ideas would be helpful.

why would you want an intercooler on a naturally asperates car...?

as for turbos search back through the forums to see all the turbo discussion.

as for power all the usual tricks apply.

Buy a 1.8 Exec. or ZXi, less work , might? be easier on insurance

Like everything it depends on the amount of money you want to spend

Road Cams
bigger fuel pump
bigger injectors
better air flow
better ECU (fuel/air mapping)
I.T.B's
bigger leads
better plugs

or a turbo or super charger

or engine conversion

decat is prob the easiet and best bang for ur buck. i noticed a huge diff on my 1.5

where does he mention cheap zx6r? I think you just presume as most 1.5 ers are owned by younger members.

ok, got some ideas, now is a turbo easy to fit.... what turbo would i need??? i am totally usless on car engines just good at modifying looks.... also whats a decat wheres it go, how much am i looking for one and whats it do.

You've transfered yours into Ollies name?

Cheapest mod: take out the pipe that goes to the underside of the airbox.

... then drop in a K&N panel filter.

You're not going to get a huge hike in performance unless you spend upwards of a grand or so - on the head of your engine as an example.

Apologies, I was trying to be funny- after seeing the problems that you went thru' last year building yours. I dont assume all 1.5 owners are young, I looked at a few prior to the V6 popping up. The comment just did not come out properly in print.

decat - removal of the catalytic converter which is part of the exhaust system it removes some of the harmfull stuff :drunken:

in the exhaust fumes also this is illegal. The legal option is to go or a sports cat but i dont think these are cheap

Barkindawg - A "High Flow CAT" will set you back about £200-£250....thought you can buy HFCats on american EBAY for $6 plus shipping, It may be alot of work tho fitting it in the system :S

To fit a turbo properly will cost you ££££'s. How much do you wish to spend?

I think for starters, do as Mark says above, also get some better plugs and leads, and some thinner oil.

Also do a search on the forum for the mods, the topic of making a 1.5 faster has been brought up many times

went out today and baught a savage sports air filter, fitted it ok just the cold air feed dosn't seem to do much and its just pointing at it now. however i have noticed a difference in performance already :thebirdman:

but the engine bay is very hot... and it gets like that very quickley surley cold air is better because the airfilter its self is red hot after driving.

yes as Mark said above you need a pannel performance filter as like you say the cone filter just gets hot and sucks hot air into your car. Its best to keep the box as it keeps the hot air from getting into your engine

thaught about keeping the box but i can't fit the filter in it..... ill leave it as it is for now, im going to buy/make a bonnet for the car and ill have a scoop directly to it. or ill extend the pipe so the filter is lower.

You can buy a high flow filter that replaces the standard filter (e.g. K&N or Pipercross etc.) in the airbox. Then remove the resonator (big ugly white plastik thingy) from the front left wing and get a cold air feed to get cold air to the airbox. The replacement filters are a bit costly, but they are re-usable so pay for themselves within about 3 services.
