++ Front Door Handle Removal ++

There's 4 screws holding the front door card on (pre-ford with the cubby hole pockets).

- The first can be found in the top corner nearest the dashboard, you'll need a flat head screw driver/trim tool to pop the cover up to access the screw.
- The second can be found within the inner door handle cup trim. This one is a really small screw so be careful not to loose it. With it removed, pull the inner handle out and the cup trim will pull out.
- The third and forth can be found inside the door pocket cubby hole pocket. They're directly underneath the hinges.

There's several door trim clips around the edge, gently pull the bottom of the door card away to release them.

The last step is to unplug the 2 electrical plugs for the mirrors and window switches. There's a button in the centre of the plug, firmly press this in and pull the plug out.

You should see a clear sheet covering the door panel. Peel away the top corner nearest the edge of the door to reveal an access hole for the handle.
** BE AWARE of the sticky sealant glue holding the clear sheet on. This stuff is really sticky and can be a nightmare to clean off clothes **

If you look up into the corner you'll see the exterior door handle.

There's one thick and one thin metal rod connecting to the door handle. For the thin rod you'll need to push the clip (typically white or orange) upwards, this will allow the rod to pull out of the clip. We'll look at the thicker rod in a second.

Next up are the two 10mm headed nuts that hold the handle to door. The first one is easily accessable, you can use a 10mm spanner or a socket and ratchet (I advise 1/4" drive for more space). The second one can be accessed through a grommet. The grommet is found near the edge of the door, approx. 25mm wide. This can either be pushed out from the inside of the door (can be tough) or with a flat head screw driver or trim tool.

With the grommet removed you can then use your 1/4" ratchet but you'll need an extension bar and a universal joint. The nut is at a slight angle to the hole.

With both 10mm nuts removed you can now grab the handle from the outside ready to remove. I found it best to lift the bottom of the handle up and wiggle the top out from the door.

Once the handle is out, it's time to remove the last rod. The white clip holding the rod on can be prised open with a flat head screwdriver. Mark the thread with a marker pen, this will make it easier to align/refit once you're ready to reassemble. With it disconnected from the handle, it'll now be released fully from the door.


++ Rear Door Handle Removal ++

The rear door card only has a single screw, which can be found within the door handle cup trim. It's the same as the front, make sure you don't loose it!

Gently pull the bottom of the door card to release the trim clips.

The door card will lift up and off the door. There's a single electrical plug for the electric window switch (if yours is fitted with electric windows that is).

Peel the clear plastic away from the top corner nearest the edge.

There's no rods on the rears. Unfortunately there's no room for a ratchet only a spanner. The grommet is blocked by the child safety lock so you won't be able to go through that access hole.

Its abit of a squeeze but perfectly doable.

With the 10mm nuts removed, you can help the handle release by pushing down the lever inside (which connects to the door lock) and pulling the handle out with your other hand.

++ Door Mirror Removal ++

There's a small plastic trim inside of the triangle door seal. You can use a flat head screw driver or a trim tool to remove it (you'll see the wiring coming out of the corner)

Follow the wiring down the door and towards the centre. Firmly press the centre of the plug and pull it out from the other plug socket.

With that trim piece removed you'll find 3 screws in each corner of the triangle shape.

** BE AWARE one of mine was seized and I had to drill the screw out. Not even an impact driver would loosen it **

Before you remove the last screw, make sure you have hold of the door mirror. You don't want to be dropping it! Feed the wiring through the door and the door mirror is now fully released.


++ Stripping The Mirror To Paint ++

From the bottom edge,gntly prise the mirror glass upwards. You can use thumb pressure of a plastic trim tool.

There's a reeeeeally small button in the centre of the white electrical plug if you wish to disconnect and remove the glass.

Next are the 3 small screws, one at the top and two nearest the outer edge. These hold the black trim to the back cover.

Underneath the mirror where the mirror folds are 3 screws, these will need removing.

In the corner of the mirror nearest the mirror base, underneath is another small screw, this will need removing. The front trim and rear cover should now prise apart (take care with this, we don't want the plastic to crack)

It should now all be dismantled ready for paint.
