So I want to install a keyless entry system in my 96 BA as it saves the wear on my (already slightly broken) door lock and also makes the car feel more modern and also saves the minimal amount of hassle of unlocking the car in the dark and all that. My main question is should I get a system that has a start stop button in it? What is the point of the button exactly? (Apart from I suppose saving wear on the ignition barrel). Also how would you wire the keyless entry system? Like this one for instance.

I installed a remote locking system last year and decided against keyless as I could fit a total closure module for the windows when I locked the car, it's parked in the back garden behind locked gates most of the time so in hot weather the windows can be left down and so easy to lock it at the end of the day from the house
It is easy to do, just takes time as with anything electrical and am still planning to fit a remote boot popper too... Having seen your other threads you really need to get a multimeter, a cheap one will do, even a light bulb and wire just to find out what wires are live at what times, it'll make life much easier as I've yet to find a reasonable and trustworthy source of a workshop manual for the wiring diagrams.

This how I've installed mine (black box towards the lower right) which is very similar to the linked one you've given (to be honest I think they're all the same underneath lol) and the central locking module is to the left (in green) and has 2 wires spliced into the unit, one to lock and one to unlock, have a constant live which for ease I just ran a fused link straight to the battery, a wire spliced into a ignition live wire so that it doesn't arm when driving (I just fitted a bypass switch into the centre console by the handbrake so that you can lock it when inside the car), an aerial lead clipped up, 2 wires for the indicators to flash and I have a wire to a relay for the boot popper which I haven't fitted as the boot lid is bent and am waiting for a scrap one to appear. The red and black wires going over the ventilation fan box etc is for the flashing LED which is in the speaker grill thing on top of the dash. If I remember right it also has a wire for a total window closure module so when it locks it tells the total closure to do it's stuff



As for stop start, easy enough I guess but I've no desire to have one so haven't investigated further

Ah ok, yea I don't have any desire for a start stop button either, was just curious what the actual point of it is. I have a bulb and some wire lying around so that will work lol. Will refer to this when I get the system. Thanks

So I just got the remote central locking kit the other day but could not find the central locking unit in the car itself. Removed the centre console and the smaller black trim piece at the back of passenger footwell on the centre console side and still couldn't see anything. Where is it?

Also need to identify the indicator wiring and maybe the horn to splice into the new unit also. Don't know how to go about connecting the windows to it really.
