A few of you know me, and a couple of you know I'm currently off work following spinal surgery.
To keep me amused I have decided to crack the seals on my lockup door, break out the white shite and create a monster.
I don't want to hear the usual, the 1.5 is a crap engine why bother, get a bigger engine to begin with, it'll cost a fortune, blah blah blah.
I want a project build and something to amuse myself with. I don't need a fast car, I already have one that is fast enough and can be played with more.

So the poll has the options facing me. I'd like your input.
In return some of you will be pestered via pm etc. When I get stumped and need some knowledge hahahaha

Cheers

Nitrous has been done on a 1.5 zippy. Stu had not on cleanie, good for the track but don't like the idea of constantly topping up the tank. I'd prefer to have a full time power boost so to speak lol

I say throttle bodies with either a charger or turbo......

Hahahaha right that's it. I'll do it all! I'll turbo charge the supercharger pulley which will flow to the itbs hahahaha

Very good mate

A smaller engine!!!

I'd vote for a supercharger, just for the noise

Is there room to fit independent throttle bodies? I'm guessing they'd have to mount on a short intake straight in to the engine? No idea, I'm used to multiple carbs and how they fit :doubt:

Yeah once the intake manifold is out there's loads of space in the engine bay for itbs

The supercharger whine is very appealing. But i don't know how much you'd hear a little charger.

All depends on how you are planning on controlling it :D
If your going with a stand alone ECU then there isn't an issue you can do which ever
ITB's would be nice with a lead upto some good head work.

Turbo would be a fun project but a 1.8 BPT or even a 1.6 B6T would be the easier obvious choice

Supercharger is probably the easier of the 3 to do DIY

my vote goes to ITBs though
I keep looking at this kit:
http://www.jenvey.co.uk/home/throttle-b ... kit-ckmz02

I think which ever one I chose I will need a stand alone ecu. Can't run any of them off the crappy z5 ecu. It's not mappable is it.

no its not, but lerch ran a supercharger (rightly or wrongly) on the standard z5 ECU he just upped the fuel pressure

:D

Really ill need to have a read through his build. I wouldn't of thought it would of ran well with the standard ecu, did it? Would it not of been running super rich?

it wasn't great but it worked... sort of :D
If he'd have finished the build he had a mega squirt ECU ready to run it but never got that far! :(

Hahaha well that kinda solves it. I'll need a ecu made up. Lol

So I'll need to look for a cheap second hand one and try and start working out how the hell to set it up.

Just read through lerch's SC build. Don't suppose anyone knew what kind of gains he managed to get do they. Or if anyone had a ride or go of it to know the differences from stock?

Ask him he's still about :)
Don't think I ever went in it when it was boosted
The megasquirt ECU has lots of options so second hand units may not be compatible

I just thought that the tubular intake manifold of the Z5 would be pretty perfect to mount some ITBs and i've never seen an ITB'd Z5 before (unlike boosted ones).
That said, there might be a reason for that ^^
Although ITBs would also seem most reasonable in terms of engine life and reliability since the Z5 really isnt that strong in stock form...

Dave hover was looking at ITB's for his 1.8 (when he was around)
Not sure if he ever managed it before he left....

I started looking into it myself - got a set of GSXR tbs - split them up ready to space for the engine, that's as far as I got :(

EDIT:
Last message I had from Dave after he sold the car:
the 323f was 217bhp but let me start that cost me about £6200

stage 3 clutch and flywheel
custom exhaust and manifold from powerspeed
rebore to 1931cc omega pistons and rings
custom piper cams and lifters and values
big value head by ashford motorsports
suzuki gsxr1300 thottle boddies with custom made inlet manifold
motec m400 ecu
mx3 rear brakes
ksports front brakes 8pot 330mm disc
the list goes on
I have a spare inlet manifold sitting and your right, the tubular construction is perfect for plumbing up itbs, as just a case of chopping and some silly cone pipework.
But then the fun of trying to dial in a new tips etc.

Matt- what's the inside diameter of those gsxr tbs? 38mm is sticking in my head for the z5 runner id

Dialing in itbs is quite simple. Look up bike carbon balancer

Ayrton mate I think you have put evil thoughts in my head mate.

I have been looking up a lot of threads on supercharger itb's set ups. Instant power with Instant throttle response.
looks very very fun hahahaha

Yeah I have been quite a bad influence on a lot of people when it comes to cars and modifying lol. Just need to motivate myself to finish mine off ready for track now

I've just seen a rendering (design stage atm) of a home made kit car using ITB, looks lush, I now concur that this is the best option 8)

Well spoke to lerch and he says that the supercharger option would need a stand alone ecu as well. As the supercharger doesn't make a difference because the ecu adjusts itself and it only runs at what it's supposed to.
So what ever I decide to do a ecu will be required.
