What is the white smear? Can it not be fixed instead of hidden?

Hmmm, bit weird that, if it's eaten into the lacquer...must be something nasty. Does it feel rough at all? Removing any contamination might be possible with paint cleaner, or even panel wipe...cleaned and finished with a sealant, could be the answer :dontknow:

I'd like to have a go at paint correction :D

I will take a pic........ whe it stops raining!!!!! :p

The finish feels ok, just, sort of matte effect if you catch my drift.

Took Meanie back to Westgate Classics today to get the offside rear arch looked at, found a 5p sized bubble and water seapage from the arch lip when I was doing the 'clean' last Friday, Mike says he'll fix it, so thats ok :) Whilst he was looking at that I aasked him to take a look at the bonnet too, he reckons its heat damage!?!?!?! But,it should polish out :D

So I shall greatfully accept Daz's offer of having a go at it with the DB, cheers fella :D

Cool, what say we combine it with a spot of CAT swapping?

I need to give Lerch his CAT back and fit an as yet unsourced replacement one to Meanie :)

Wonder if there's anything in 'For Sale' or 'Breakers'?.......

Blimey, another age since I've done anythingwith Meanies topic
:D
I think maybe a full on mods list might be an idea, especially since we still don't have the garage back... CAN YOU HEAR ME ADMIN..... that means YOU Hughie :p Hands out of your pants please ;)

Ok, so, after MANY years of procrastinating about it, I've finally decided to refresh my dash with LEDs :D

I've plumped for white SMDs for the job, so I've ordered 6 canbus free 5 SMD 501s for the clock illumination, fuel level light and indicators and 2 lots of 10 single SMD 286s for all the warning lights and the cigarette lighter surround :) All in £12:17 inc post, ebay is my friend :D

For the switches, hazard, rear screen, fogs etc, I'm trying to order two lots of 5 single SMD T3 LEDs from JDM Powered (some of you may remember them from one of the shows a couple of years back, Japfests I think) they're being a bit dense about payment though so I might not get these for the scheduled revamp next week, gotta do something with my paternity leave ;)

In other news, the Great Front End revival is still on the cards, especially since we're moving house soon and I'll have a nice big garage to play in :D

Basically i'll be taking of the front bumper for the first time, can you believe it, and rewiring all the lamps and horns, fitting the Post ford OE fogs I got off Andy at last years JAE, moving the Hellas to the middle (Eleanor stylee) and fitting new DRLs, type TBC confirmed and fitting fresh stainless mesh :) Hopefully the lamps will all have protective grills or poly covers as well :) I'll be sorting the wiring by fitting a proper fuse board as well, my hope is to get all this done by JAE :)

There is also the latest repaint of the arches to get fitted in as well, I'll keep you posted :D

Yesterday, I decided to fit my new dash LEDs, ordered on Friday, delivered Monday, sweet :-D

This is what I ordered...

6 of these...
Image

and 20 of these...
Image

So, the 5 smd T10/501's are for clock lights, turn signals and fuel warning and the single smd

Here's the results, pretty nice I think you'll agree :-)

Image
Image

Much nicer than the old illumination.....

Image

So I went for a spin, to admire my handiwork, looking good :-)

Right up until ten minutes into the obligatory test drive, when the clocks lights suddenly went out!!!!!!!!!

 Do we know why? :( blown fuse? failed dimmer switch?

We had a slight problem with the LED's from Chi's clocks as they low fuel warning lamp circuit is based on resistance and the LED didn't provide enough resistance so the light was on all the time...

Well, I have got an idea, which I will post tonight, with pics :-)

I also had resistance issues, you can't use leds for the airbag or the hand brake light either, they both stay on constantly :-s

Matts dead right low washer level it is :)

All BA's have the warning light but as far as I know, its only wired up as part of the headlamp washer jet kit!

All I did was nab a level sensor from a BG, they all had the level warning lamp wired up :D

Anyways, back to the LEDs, I'd taken Meanie for a test drive and ten minutes in the clock illumintation had failed....

So, next morning, I took the dash off again and had a little look to see if I could find the problem which I honestly thought would be a loose connection somewhere.....

Unfortunatly it couldn't be that easy as you can see from the photos below...

Basically, the 5 SMD 501's have fried the bulb holders and burnt out the power supply circuit on the flexible PCB
