Same here after a cold morning start the needle drops by quite a bit! And when you go round corners it goes a up and down.

Mine seems to dive from full to below half over 100 miles, but when I fill it up it's only used about 1/4

Mines does that, it'll go from middle to 1/4 and sit on 1/4 for longer, weird...

That's why you can't use the guage to give you your fuel consumption, it's only a guage, not an accurate reading

Well yeah of course it's not but it is kind of weird the way it "jumps" as it were when driving.

We don't all have these fancy trip computer

Shape of the tank, temperatures, whether the sender unit is sticky or rusty or the connection isn't good will all affect it, as well as going round corners.

I've always found that it will empty 'quicker' the emptier the tank is. Yesterday the guage was at half way and had done 255 miles, yet 100 miles later it's almost empty.

The BJ has a trip computer showing litres per 100 miles, and fuel remaining, and an accurate mpg reading from the scanguage too

The RX7 on the other hand...has a "fuel guide"...if the needle is over half a tank, you have some fuel in it, when it gets to half a tank it varies between 1/4 and 1/2 as you accelerate and go over bumps...if it's between empty and 1/4 tank...you need to stop for fuel...like, now

Surely the RX7 would just have a light, when the light is on it has fuel, when it's off it doesn't, one extreme or the other surely

It has "full - should make it to the next garage no problem"

Mine V6 - 23.5MPG on LPG I'm not trying to make mpg records, i just drive how i like

oh dear... 28.48 mpg. only got a 12 mile round trip each day so i can squeeze out about 3 weeks on a tank so its all good.

My tank will last about a week or 2 usually, if I only use the car to go to the local village a 10 mile round trip. If I have to go to Stornoway then I usually get 3 return trips out a tank. I work it out so that it will last till a Saturday night, then fill it up

I rarely run down to an empty tank.

So have been taking stock of my miles and how much i am filling up with over the last few weeks.

Few calculations later and it looks like the car is doing (pretty consistantly) around 24-25 mpg

i only get around 33mpg with my 1.5BA. Maybe its just the age of our mazdas?

Right i've had mine for a full tank now so i've been able to work it out. This is for a car that was going to the scrap yard 3 months ago:

47 litres
10.44 Gallons of fuel
434 miles
41.5MPG

I havent been driving miss daisy and i can tell you exactly where the limiter kicks in now. Also that was with a tank full of fuel system cleaner which helps its go down faster.

Next tank i'm going for 500 miles.

My consumption has increased slightly which is to be expected since it's gone colder and wet, having to use the heater more. Still getting 38-40 mpg though.

Just thought you might like to know that petrol where I live has gone up to £1.32 to £1.40 per litre.

That's ing, nice to know how much fuel will cost in the next 2 months though

Erm, 202 miles from a tank in the V6

Not been booting at all and the shortest journey I have to do is 3 miles.

that's where the fuel is going mate - the beej is terrible on short runs, but excellent on longer journeys

I have a 16 mile round trip to work and a 2 mile drive to my missus nearly everyday, it's the drive to hers that canes my petrol...

Need to find a girl who lives further away. "It's not me it's you.... living to bloody close.."
