Had a go at improving the scratches on the windscreen today. I used a "scratch doctor" kit from ebay, and it was £12 well spent.

Hard to capture with the camera, but there were lots of deep scratches, caused mainly by the wipers

Started off by masking it off a bit ;)

Then used the pad supplied on my old faithful electric drill :)

The deep scratches are still there, but they're much improved, and hopefully it'll be ok for a while, until I can afford a new windscreen...

I also got the red bulb paint out, and finished the rear foglamp :D

I was thinking the same nick - I'm gonna give toothpaste a go first and if that doesn't make much difference, I'll steal marc's idea and get some proper stuff

Coming along really nicely tho pal, best of luck with the MOT on Tues :)

Well, it's a white abrasive polish, that is shot all over the place

It'll make a mess of all the nice black bits, and the paintwork...also, some nice chunky bubble wrap is good for protecting your paintwork when you're leaning on it, putting tools down etc :thumbleft:

good job on the windscreen marc, always wondered if there's a way to treat those wiper damaged scratches...

Also, is this a special one off rx-7 made by nazda?

Had another productive day today...

The fuel guage wasn't working (bad in an RX7  ) and there was a slight smell of petrol when driving...so, Karissa and I decided to investigate... :)

Had huge problems with rusty bolts, so much so I nearly gave up, but with the lovely kbob there to persuade me to carry on, I managed to get the shields off, and fight my way to the tank itself...

In removing the fuel hoses under the car, one of the metal pipes snapped, luckily I had a length of new hose, so I could make a longer one, and secure it further up the pipe ;)

Image

dropped the fuel filler out, easier than getting to the pipes on the tank ;)

Image

then dropped the tank, and found several small holes in the top section - these are known to rust away up there - it's easy to find them when the petrol leaks out

Image

Image

I applied a good layer of chemical metal all over the "thin" area, and then painted the whole tank in waxoyl underseal paint :)

Image

Image

While the tank was out, I cleaned the contacts on the fuel guage sender, and that seems to have done the trick - so no more smell of petrol, and I know how much is in the tank - result 8)

As a treat, we drove to the seafront for fish and chips...happy days :D

MOT inspectors are not allowed to remove the fuel tank to check for holes in the top of it.

I know that bit. . .

is there no room to put your hand up and feel ? i know on some tanks you can get your hand in there . . .
