The system for controlling the fan speeds is very simple, the switch is connected to a resistor pack, situated in the underside of the fan unit, in the passenger footwell.

When a speed fails, it is usually speed 1 first, then speed 2 etc, and happens because the resistor fails.

It's quite a simple job to repair it, you need a philips screwdriver, a good hot soldering iron, a knife, and some patience


Disconnect and remove the pack from the heater fan





Take the shortest part of the broken resitor (springy but) and unsolder it...pull out a straight part of the remainder, and scrape off the outer coating...



Solder the new shiny end to the terminal



then shape it a bit, and ensure it will fit into the space

You mean break one end off coz the b*****d screw is impossible to undo

Ok, full instruction would be more like "remove the one screw you can actually get to, then try a few different screwdrivers...then resort to violence"

1 screw holds it firmly in place though

Just bought a 323f sr... when i bought it only heater speeds 1 & 4 worked. Today it was on 4 and then just stopped blowing.... I'm a computer tech
and my eagle eye spotted that under the glove box all the plastics had been removed (there in the boot) I don't know anything about cars and worse still
I bought this car sold as seen from a lady (it was her husbands who just passed away "Winsford cheshire" white 323f if anybody knows the old owner). Anyway
Sticking out from the carpet near the floor were two connectors one was white one was black I unplugged them both (Dunno why) plugged them back in and hei pressto
fan works now on speed 1 & 4 again BUT sometimes 2 works strange LOL. i'm new to forums too so just incase this is my email DarrenLewis@live.co.uk
By the way have had a 323f b4 but wasn't half as quick as this one theres a K&N air flow charger under the bonnet dunno what it is (I know of K&N filters but this is a metal box)
