how many people have actually done and finished the gtx conversion and what kind of problems have you come across, i really want to do this conversion but ive just seen shaggys ba gtx on ebay with a few engine problems, just wondering how difficult it is to get parts for gtx or weather 2 buy 2 front clips just in case.

Passenger side driveshaft has to be changed to the driveshaft from a car with a G series - the "f series" shaft is different to the "g series" shaft

as for clutches - this is what's holding me up - i aint got a clue :(

well matt, For the clutch you would need the 226mm 28 spline disk with the appropriate pressure-plate.

This is what i needed for my conversion to the g box.
Do note that you would need all the shafts from the g-box. Also the cv joints are different. so you would need those too.
I ve got the spec stage 2+ clutch.
I believe the order number is this one, from a 90 - 94 2wd protege 1.8.
SPEC-SF743H
Just als the questions i did, what splinecount and dia of the disk. It should be 225, but close to 226. The pressure-plate should fit on any flywheel as long as it is one from a bp(t).

kinda the same clutch but from clutchmasters
Type: FX300
Order number:07-074-HDTZ
Pricing: $405

The spec clutch:
Type: SPEC-SF743H
Pricing: $341

Both types and pricing i took from www.importperformanceparts.net.
Good luck hunting.

About the driveshafts: I personally think it is better to use the same shafts on both sides. The g serries is thicker and can hold more abuse. Therefore your cv joints are the same as well and you will get more predictable torq steering. Mork from fordprobestore knows wich ones you would need on de driveshafts.

Happy hunting.

What do you guys do for wiring in a BA BPT conversion? Does the GTX engine loom swap straight in, or? Just wondering as it's occurred to me that if you can swap in a GTX engine loom, then you can swap in an MX3 K8 loom, making a KLZE swap easier into a BP BA than a KF one!

My car has been turboed for 3 - 4 years now. The only real issue was the car getting hot due to Hot ozzy weather lol, fixed that
with a thicker radiator.

My GtX only has small issues, a leaking dizzy and a sticky pully... there jsut liek BP engines but with a turbo :)

wiring is the ball ache... reverse switch, fuel pump, nutural switch, ignicion. For me the hard part was the actual speedo, getting the temp gauge etc to work :(

great engines tho :)

Sounds like for the effort and money compared to the actual power gain you'd be much better off just switching to a V6 - at least then you'd get good sound as well :)

What a KL? see ye thats all good, ye 200bhp and the sound of a v6 is very nice.. but thats all you get. To get 250bhp from a v6 will cost alot more money than the same power from a BPT.... with the BPT/D you have ALOT more potential for alot more power.. I seen a BPD with 500bhp.

Doing a conversion is going to cost you money and time either way?!?

you just carnt beat the sound of a turbo spooling up and peeps turning round in the streets to see what the hell that crazy noise is.. happens to me daily.. 2 times today :)

I give respect to anyone who has done a KL or BPT/D conversion. There both great to see. personally for me id always go turbo route..

Hmmmmm, unless like me you have spent a small fortune on the BA...Sell it, buy the older 323 gtr, 4x4 ;).

Any BPD putting out 500HP has also had ALOT of money spent on both it, and likely the gearbox. If you're looking for 500HP, then your actual best bet is an FE3T.

I actually own a BP powered Mazda Etude (basically a BF based MX3), and fully intend to turbo it in the long run, but for reliability, comfort, and cost, I'd never dream of putting one in a BA - The KLZE is just such a better fit.

Mazda 4wd boxes are made of glass. The engine and wiring swaps quite nicely into the BG 323F though ;)

I dont understand how the KL is a better fit? its huge, doesnt leave much space at all.

My point is that if you run a KL, then great.... but to get stupid power out of it 220+ you have to either turbo it or get your internal work on....

pound for pound the BPT/D is the best route per money spent.

Didn't mean just physical fit, but spirit of the car too.

Same applies to the BPT - The rods are useless. To get anywhere near the same reliability out of it as you would a KL, you're gonna want to swap to B6T/BPD rods, big nose crank, GTR or aftermarket ECU, etc etc.

To me, the KLZE just seems the better option in a BA. BF or BG? BPT all the way - it's a lighter car, meaning the gearbox will last longer and it'll love the turbo. Everyone to their own though I guess :)

With a KLZE @ 200+ you will have allot of power in any gear, Ive seen
the difference several times on the motorway. The KLZE just simply blasts away from me even in higher gears like 5th...

Im "thinking" about getting a BPT though... ;) well thinking... Im...

bpt/d is the value for money route!

but will never ever sound as good as any v6, its just a plain 4 pot with a ptsch turb0! just like well....... every other 3 million turb0 cars in the uk! turning round in the street to see something amazing sounding? no.

something fast! yes!

deffo value for money though, look at shaggys! why hasn't someone snapped that up! a steal!

There are adapter plates out there for the B-series block to Toyota Celica GT4 box. MR2 box would bolt up to the same adapter, and if you get a turbo box, there's a good chance it'll have LSD too. Brilliant solution to the biggest problem with high powered B-series powered Mazda's, it's just not cheap by anyones standard :/

Not to burst your bubble, but all bpt/bpd engines have the big nose crank.
Asked for such a crank, art code don't match up for any bp (short nose, all of em, even the mx5/miatta ones).
bpt and bpd are the same however.
The rods are the same too, even for the b6t. The first editon b6t had different ones, yes, but not all.

The box on its own is fine, it is the differential to the rear that is troublesome, even on stock boost lvl's. Got that from a head mechanic with racing experiance in the gtx.

I dont think the rods are forged on the GTX? alot of people put the b6t rods in as they are :)

Most shops only can find the b6t rods to begin with.
Or you get the h-beam one like toga, carillo, eagle, ... or you get those.
It still is the same. Asked at my local mazda dealer, Mazda did actuatly stop producing the bpt/d rods not long after they went out of production. Stock is long gone. By popular demand the b6t are still in stock. There are far more b6t out there than there are bpt/d. It just happens that they interchange!

Ill be finding out how it all goes in 2 months. Very interested seeing
what bang I get for the buck. Ive been in a KLZE 323FBA and that
goes like mad. But the 1.8 is still some KG lighter then the V6's so
that'll be interesting with a tubby. :)

any box would fit with an adaptor fitted to it.
Box itself is something else.
Maybe take a look at the lancer evo box. They can handle 300+ bhp
if you have the place for it take the skyline r33 gearbox. The r34 is way too big and heavy. (weights more than the c20det engine with box!)

Something closer too home (mazda that is) the 6mps box. It is a 4wd and lsd box after all. can handle more that 260 bhp anyway.
