Probably something to do with my previous '85 VW Passat - an underpowered 1.8 323F still goes better !!!

Oh boy, they really did a job there! Sorry to hear about your results, lets hope they/you can sort it. But just think, when it's sorted it will seem a shed load faster! underpowered to normal power to chipped power in a few short days! :D

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Great News !!!

Took the tappet cover off this morning, and Bingo ! Found that it WAS the dreased OTOS (One Tooth Out Syndrome) ...

Spent the next couple of hours taking various objects off the left hand side of the motor (from the front, if you're facing towards the back off the car ..... ) untill I got to teh cam-belt tensioner - loosened it, reset the timing (Correctly) and put everything back together and Hey Presto ! I've got nearly twice as much power at low revs, and considerably more than I had at high revs. And that's after guessing the ignition timing !!

I'll be getting her back to VanderLinde's soon for proper tuning, and (I should think) far more satisfactory Dyno readings !!

Nice one Smotter, now you can hold your head up high again. It's worrying when someone who posts on average 5 TIMES A DAY disappears!

Let us know what the final 'improvements' were! (I didn't laugh at the first Dyno sheet so most prob won't laugh at the next!!:P, besides; the torque figure looked quite good anyway!)

OK - Final results ! Unfortunately, the results are a combination of the Unichip and the cambelt correction .....

If you look at the torque gains at around 3000 to 4500, you will understand why my car is SOooooooo much better to drive now !!!

yup looking good there ;)
Yo got new BHp figures ?

Andy am sure your 1.5 would improve with a unichip ;) - when i spoke to em last year they reckoned on an estimated 10% improvement but since they hadnt dyno'd mine and never done a V6 they couldnt be too sure . From what I gather they will work with almost any car.

The Unichip is not vehicle specific. It is installed in parallel with your existing ECU and then is set up on a rolling road dyno thingy to over-ride your existing settings with more efficient ones, and supliments settings where they are not available on the original ECU. They can b eeffactive with pretty much any vehicle with fuel injection and an ECU ...

Have a look at http://www.dastek.co.uk - they list the 45 odd dealers available to you.

Correction - they don't list the sites as yet - their head-office is in Fife, and the SA website mentions something about a network of about 45 dealers. There is a "Contact Us" doodad on the UK website where I'm sure you can request location of your nearest dealer.

by the way - It might be worth while for someone to approach them about a Club323F discount ???

theres plenty of dealers around in the UK - the one I went to was in Andover they do the Dasktec Unichip - they quoted around £400 tested and fitted, but advise your car is in perfect running condition as it will be on the Rolling road for up to 4 hours on and off during the testing and fitting etc.... I think its a franchise thing, but best bet is to do a local search for Rolling road centres and then ring em and see what they do.

Unfortunately my funds cant stretch to it :( and i dunno if its worth it with my engine as its now done 153k ... might not stand the pace of the test lol.

153k is quite a bit - I assume you're talking miles - although I did mine with 175k kilometers on ...

£400 sounds a bit steep - I paid R2280, including VAT, which works out at about £200 ...

Yup Miles it is ... but its a V6 so should run for another 150k ;)

Am afraid in England thats what the cost is ... bleeding expensive :P, wonder how much it would cost to .... nahh bit too expensive to ship the car out lol

There's a place just outside of Norwich (or is that Ipswich? ...I keep getting them confused!).

I was quoted £245 for the UNICHIP so after fitting, tuning & VAT I guess the figure will reach about £400; not bad when I consider that my exhaust cost more than that!! :D

My car has done 119,000 miles now but the engine feels just as good (if not better, after some mods!0 as the day I bought it with 89,000 miles. I have driven the car hard and put the engine under presssure for prolonged periods and it has been fine. I think the garages just have to cover their backs with regard to older cars blowing up on their rolling roads!:P

...time to start saving then.
