Right, now I'm out of uni with an ok job I thought it was time to get a newer/faster/more practical car. So after days of thinking and careful consideration, I bought this....

I'm sorry that i am the first to comment but WHY?!?
a friend had one that he paid £4500 for and within 4 months had spent what he paid for it in repairs. I know they are quick but they are useless at the same time. if you wanted speed why not get a 300zx twin turbo as you can get one for £2000 and insurance as long as its a uk spec will be less than you may think

Because as far as I can see, it's the next thing up from a MX5 in terms of driver enjoyment.

I must admit, I'm a little afraid of what could go wrong since it's French and all (hence the hestitation...... in the OP). I've checked the car over, all the history seems to be there, nothing (at the moment) is wrong with it and it appears to have been looked after.

I never thought I'd ever buy a French car after my first one (Pug 106), and expect a little playful abuse here. Therefore I don my armour suit

rear wheel drive, well balanced, tight handling, great turn in...and you think a step UP is to a front wheel drive cheese eating surrender monkey ???

A step up from the MX5 would be the RX7 FD, or simply turbo charge the MX5


but hey, each to their own, but you'll be disappointed if you think you'll get anywhere near the driving experience in that renault that you did in the 5

i wouldn't say its a step up (or down) its a different class / type of car - you've went from a sportscar to a hot hatch

an elise / s2k / tvr s series would be my idea of a step up from an mx5

As i said i apologise for being the first one to post.
But i warn you my friends one was bought from a dealer with full history and servicing but still ending up costing what he paid for the car in 4 months on repairs.
But at least you got the better colour as the blues are just very common.
Is yours the sport cup trophy or just the sport cup?

It's the Cup version, there aren't too many Trophy's around.

I'm wrong to say it's a step up from the MX5 as a sportscar (if you can call it that) terms - that would probably be a S2000. Though in terms of being a "driver's car" it should suffice.

my mate swears by these and he knows his stuff... not driven one but a whole lot of people swear that theyre the best chassis out there.

If we were all the same it'd be boreing mate - enjoy!

anyway, while i was contracted out for some IT work about a year ago i got chatting to a guy who had one of these, said it was fantastic, best drivers car he'd ever owned.

now it was falling apart rapidly and he was struggling to afford to fix it all as its all clio sport / cup bits he was needing or some rubbish. couldn't just fit the normal cheap clio stuff or something. think it was the shocks / springs and cracked exhaust manifold he kept suffering.

but people say vauxhalls fall apart and i had an astra for about 40k miles and it had less problems then the 3 jap cars ive had combined.

so just enjoy it

was in the megane 250 cup today as a passenger around knockhill, goes pretty well but its the road holding / handling that was surprising could really really chuck it hard. I think you'll really enjoy it.

the front seats were fantastic aswell, very comfy and supportive

I do enjoy the MX5, but it just doesn't have the power to match the chassis. It's a pity it couldn't get the turbo version, but the novelty of only having two seats and no space for anything else is wearing off. With the Clio I have a little more space, speed, and a decent chassis.

Looks a clean car from that pic mate, and I really like these cars, well rated by other french car enthusiasts

i actually think it could be a decent wee trackday / short commute car where its not super fast but enough to have a laugh in, cheap enough not to care what happens and just f*** it into any garage for bits. No tinkering or modding just replace tyres, fluids, wear and tear parts / repairs.

and 12 year anti corrosion warranty.....

those rs cup chassis's are pretty good, 4 up in that megane 250 going into the chicanes all you could think was this is so going to understeer and then it would just turn!

the more power / speed the more money required!

Nice car Nick, you can get a lot of car for you money and as murray said they are coming into very decent trackday cars price ranges too.
Like murray said, I was with him in that Megane yesterday and I was super impressed, so if the Clio is just a smaller version of that - happy motoring!

It wouldn't be my choice but I know they're nippy and fun. Best of luck with it! Electrics prone to failure but body work wont rust! (Because some of it is made of plastic )

As much as I'd like a 500 Abarth, they're twice the price of the Clio, and I'd rather buy like a Golf GTI or Honda Integra for that kind of money.

Just got this bad boy out the garage, the MX5 has replaced it's spot - waiting for someone to buy it.

I must say, after the first few days of driving this thing... fook me its fast! I don't know the car too well yet, but just getting up to speed on the slip road is nice and easy. Thing is, once you hit 70mph you think "Is that it?", and you feel the need to put your foot down some more.
Also compared to the MX5 it's really quiet and smooth. Took a lady out yesterday, and we could hear one another! (Oh that's actually a bad thing )

Also, 35mpg (according to the computer) is nice, as are the other gizmos.
