This is what happens when you have a Clarkson on each shoulder instead of an angel and a devil

Needed something 4wd with a decent sized boot and this came up at good price! Considering I got rid of my last fullsize SUV a couple of years ago because petrol was costing too much I clearly havent learned my lesson!



It’s a 2011 Range Rover Sport Supercharged with the Jag sourced 510bhp 5.0 V8. Amusing doesn’t even begin to cover it!

I was lucky to find this one though – it only has 55,000 kms on it and is still warrantied up with Land Rover through to 2017 or 160,000 kms. Fuel consumption is understandably not good around town, but with my daily commute being 90% motorway its not proving to be quite as bad as I had first thought – it all seems to depend on how heavy my right foot is…

Its actually surprisingly tame at low speeds, you just have to be sparing with the happy pedal. Once you put your foot to the floor it goes far faster than any 3-ton SUV has any right to! Nice noise too...

This would be an absolute money pit to drive in Europe lol. I bet it drives great though. Would love to take one of these on my yearly skiing trip to Austria!

I dont think I've ever seen one of these things not doing 120mph in the oustide lane of the motorway over here! Shame people think they come with speed limit exclusions when they buy these cars in the UK

Its still a bit of a money pit here as well - it costs me about 60 Euro/40 GBP to fill the tank right now and with my usual commute that lasts a little over two days! Thank god work pays for my petrol!

The drive is great though - I drove a 1st Gen RRS (06-09) a few years back and this 2nd Gen version is a definite improvement. Nowhere near as much body roll through the corners for a start. Other than that, around town its surprisingly agile and purrs along smoothly. Has the 380mm Brembo's up front so stops nicely as well

Sadly you hit the nail on the head Lerch - a lot of these are driven by muppets/drug dealers/premiership footballists. On the way to work I sit at 110km/h (speed limit is 100kp/h here in Ontario) in the slow lane and it doesnt use much more petrol than the 4 cyl turbo I had in the Evoque. Its a fantasticly comfortable vehicle to just cruise in and I'm trying to take it back for decent blokes the world over! The noise is definitely a plus for me - it doesnt have a noticable whine from the charger, but I think thats because when you do open it up the V8 rumble takes over. Yet to find a decent tunnel to properly listen to it!

yes, the old sport had the landy chassis...the newer ones are proper Rangeys

This one still runs on the Disco chassis (they didnt switch until the 3rd Gen in 2014) but they added a host of extra "Dynamic" gubbins that tightened it all up and made it a bit more worthy of a 'Sport' badge. Having said that - I'm not sure how much of the extra handling ability is with mine being the Supercharged version. All that bhp through a Disco chassis without fettling would be scary!

Definitely feels like a proper Rangey when you are driving though...some of the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in!

My bro had a 1973 (I think) 2 door, in white, with the 3.5 v8. I loved it...if I could afford one I'd have it

Very nice! Trouble now is those classic 2 doors are starting to command big money no matter the condition. I was keeping my eyes open for a nice condition late model classic (I think it was about 93ish it was replaced by the unreliable P38 shape) - nothing classier!

Finally got round to taking a few pictures this weekend...sadly its already showing the mess from parking under a tree every night. I will be attacking said tree with a chainsaw before the summer is out...









I havent decided yet if I want to do anything to it. The rims could do with being refinished so I'm considering a change to black, but other than that it doesnt need anything. Famous last words.

One purchase will be some Meguiars - black looks amazing when clean and awful the other 98% of the time!
