My dad bought this car for my grandpa as a gift, and it's been in our family only. We only drive it in Portugal when we're there for the summers, and so it has relatively few km's. I've driven it many times and know that a few of the problems it has are belt squeal when the lights are on, I sometimes have to press the gas when starting it, the idle (upon starting) always goes up to like 1200-1500 RPM's until I hit the gas and it falls back down to 700. The car shakes on the highway if I pass 120km/h. That's all that comes to mind. I know the tranny had some work done to it, probably because it would grind going into reverse.

I'm no stranger to working on cars. Had a 1993 F-150 4.9L back in the US, and a 2002 bmw 325i. I've changed clutches, differentials, pulled out all kinds of parts and pieces, etc. So that said, I know a bit about car work. Anyone have any ideas about what's causing the problems I listed above?

I'm inheriting this car and taking it back to the Netherlands with me.
