oil filter

okies yet another question.

for most of the day now we have been battling to get the oil filter off.
we have that little tool thats made for that job.
but after hours and hours of hard work we can not get it to budge!

its stuck fast, almost seems as if its been welded on!! or crossed threadded
but we would should have made some movement it by now! gurrrrrrr this is getting annoying!!

andy ideas on how ro remove it?

Make sure your turning it the right way, use an oil filter wrench. Or if your real stuck smash a screwdriver in it and turn it.

Wear a rubber glove (Latex type or gardening) and try to unscrew it by hand, if you aint got any gloves handy, wrap some elastic bands round it and try again :thumbup:

tryed all the above,

the screw driver was our first port of call, as i do it on all my cars.
i even got that oil filter wrench, but it aint working.

its as if theres a weld around it:?

Screwdriver should always be your LAST port of call, not the first!!!
And theres no chance of it being welded on, nobody is that stupid..... :wink:

I would suggest a pipe wrench, but I don't think you'll get one in there....
Are you absolutely sure your turning it anti-clockwise?

theres no play init what so ever no matter what way it turns

and now the oil wrench filter has cut through it!

im serieosly starting to think its either very badly cross threaded
or welded.

so its time to look at another way of getting it off.

was thinking of cutting the edge of the filter were it joins the engine in a vage hope of it coming off.

The more filter you cut off, the less you have to get a grip of!!!

And you don't want to start cutting bits off in case you damage the threads on the engine....

Are you trying it from underneath the car or above?

see the new filter?
well that had to go back as it didnt fit, yet the book said it was for the 1.8 gti!

well it turns out the larger filter thats bigger then the funked one is the right one!
but in the book it says its for the 1.6!

makes me and the guys at my local motor shop wonder if the guid book they have is right!
cos the stuff it says for the 1.6 fits the 1.8gti.
and all the gti stuff fits the 1.6!
