Hi Guys, Got around to wiring my Alpine Headunit up today. All working fine and dandy, Untill i went to go home tonight. turned my lights on. And head unit powers off
When i'd got home, parked up and turned my lights off. Headunit powers back up but its lost all memory. I'm guessing its either pulling too much power, or the ground is insufficient? any advice guys? Cheers, Andy |

I had same problem in a pulsar, fuses blowing when the lights were turned on. It turned out to be incorrectly grounded. did you run your own grounding wire or use the grnd that was already there?? If you did the latter then i would suspect that is your problem |

Used the ground that was already existing on the standard loom mate. I don't think i'm blowing a fuse as it Headunit powers on again when i turn the lights off. But obviously something isn't right. I'll be testing both Battery and Ignition Lives' tonight to see if either of them drop when i turn the lights on. If not i'm guessing its a grounding problem? |

My BG has developed a similar-ish problem since I installed a new tape player at the weekend... Now when I switch on the ignition the side lights come on (regardless of the light switch being in the off position), and the stereo works when I turn the ignition on AND when I turn the main lights on! What the hell have I done? When it's light I'll draw a diagram, hopefully someone will be able to help me sort it out! I reckon a previous owner's messed with the original wiring in the car, either that or i'm an idiot who can't follow simple instructions and match colours up... |

Just realised I never posted the solution to this problem. Turns out it was to do with the earth. I tapped a new earth into the metal bracket behind the HU and all works well. Oursoul I recommend you give that a go? most problems are solved by tapping a new earth. Also check with a voltmeter that your getting current through battery live all the time and ignition live when ignition is switched to ACC or engine is powered on. |

thanks mate I had another look at it and have sorted it out. I re-wired everything as it was originally and it worked I swear it didn't first time! the confusing part was my connector for the stereo didn't have an 'illumination' wire, so it appeared the orange wire was going to nothing on the connector. Anyway god knows how it worked but it did so I'm happy and relieved...I also had a further problem having replaced the front speakers where the sound would completely cut out when I tightened the screws - I solved this by taking the rubber covers from the backs of the original speakers and sticking them on the back of the new ones - i guess it was shorting out on the door or something... |
