Hello! I own a 323F with the 1.6 16V Carburetor engine, and I'm looking to advance my ignition timing for some more power. The owners manual (or is it the factory repair manual?) specifies 6-8 degrees BTDC for ignition on what I assume is the 95 RON factory recommended fuel. I'd like to know how many degrees I can advance that as I run 98 RON Repsol Neotech on my baby. I found that the similarly-engineered and (almost) sized Z5 from the BA can take something about 14 degrees and this Megasquirt table calculator specifies that I can push for 13 degrees. What are your experiences and opinions? I'm thinking maybe 12. Thanks!

I see from the picture that you have modified the air intake. It's difficult to predict the results, but you can try 2degrees at a time until you hear pinking, then back off 1 degree.
The BA engine is different, it has a modified ignition system compared to the BG, and most have twin cams with 16 valves, so you can't really compare.

Be careful if you eventually need to use 95RON fuel.
In my experience, 98 RON fuel does not provide any advantage. I have only seen maybe an increase in the total distance travelled, but the same increase as the price difference. But I did not tweak the ignition.

I saw your post, I see you are trying to get a bit more out of your timing,
This is possible with a few small upgrades.
I'm currently running the same engine (1.6ltr 16V SOHC carb engine)
With a duel Weber 32/36 DGEV as mine has the electric choke.
Timing set to 11 in homage to Spinal Tap LOL running 95octane dedicated.
I use a race oil as well to further proof and minor leaks at the cam, crank and rear main seal.
