A visual way to spot a G series is the top mounts (besides the P.N's etc)

G series

As you can see under the mount there is a bracket, this bracket bolts to the mount then the whole unit fixes to the top of the gearbox.

F series

As you can see the F series doesnt have this mount and is bolted direct to the top of the box.

If you are looking for a G series gearbox, they can be found in the 323f BG GT 1.8 and early versions of the BA 1.8 (from 1994-early 1995) If you are looking for a G series box and you find a "M" reg BA its ALWAYS a good idea to get the VIN number, then if you have a EPC you can get the exact details of the car including the P.N for the gearbox (G25M-R)

Please note if you have a BA its not a good idea to buy a BG G series gearbox as many parts will not match, i.e hubs and shafts :D

Here is a pic of the G series gearbox and the mount, this is a pic of GrimReapers G series gearbox from his BG GTR conversion, you can see the bracket on the top :D this is what you are looking for :D

oh.... dont even go there, buddy! :D

for fun, i ckecked the price on a brand new GT-R box.

12000£ in norway!!!

reduse that by alittle, and youll get the price you will have to pay for the GT-R box :D

as the GT-R box is based on the G-series, i would say around 7000£ for a brand new one :D

just speculations offcourse

Isn't it just simpler to read it off the box.

Its in the bottom right corner with in between the 2 clock face circles things.
It will say G5M01 or G25M01 etc.

Where does one get a copy of the electronic parts catalogue ??

are there any other differances between the 2 gearboxes?
I have a scrappy 2-95 and maybe a "new" 4-96. Will it be a straight swap or do other parts need to be changed or modified?

What year? The F and G series have different mounts, a F series mount will not hold a G series. ( Trust me I had a F mount on my G box) It only held with one bolt!

i think that everyone over here (uk) has used the G series box

Shaggy once told me that he knew of someone running the F series on a GTX conversion - But i'm not sure on the GTR

also, it's not just the box that has to change - drive shafts etc have to go to........

hi, not sure if there is any possibility that a V6 2.0 gearbox could be used with GTX/GTR engine instead of 1.8 gearbox since the V6 2.0 gearbox also G-series (if i am not mistaken)

I have a gearbox that has the following numbers on it G550 K-2. I bought it connected to a GTX engine but it's not a GTX box it's a 2wd box and I used my g series box that was in my car. The guy who sold it to me said that it was a LSD box. Has anyone come across this type of box before and how could I tell if it really is a LSD box ?

Yes they do exist, they are VERY rare and VERY expencive!!Id put it back on if I were you! i was nder the impression that the numbe rof splines was different on the LSD boxes tho. Some one with an EPC might be able to help with the part number. Its not a G series number ive seen before
