hello everyone.my first post ever. wahoo!
ive turboed my mazda 1.5 got bugger all going on at work so this year thought i'd turbo the little beast. so far total cost of it being around £150! i've managed to salvage most bits and bobs from work. the only things i've bought were the t25 £50, 180 degree i.c pipes £20, the intercooler £1.99! the steel bends for my makeshift manifold £20.adjustable fuel reg £25. Few other bits and pieces.currently winning bidder on some bigger injectors the last major bit to put in.enough of the rambling. is there anyone out there that has fully turboed theres? i've got the maf running on boost side. no bov as of yet.hoping to get one built up tommorrow at work if I get a chance. air/fuel ratio is constantly switching between 11.8 and 19 which if I understand it right i'm averaging around 15. which isnt far off that really long word that i cant remember.why when i take my foot off accelerator does it go full lean?like 20? surely if throttles closed there aint that much boost getting through? Is this an ecu thing? I know I've upgrade computer at some point but....hmm well just not getting that part. This is the longest damn post ever. hopefully said as much as i need to now. try and get some pics up.If anyone wants to see them of course. cheers lads

good effort on the project. the whole "turboing 1.5" thread comes up a lot but no-one really gets round to it.

pics would be blooming lovely.

p.s. word is stoichiometric ratio(14.7:1)

Hi, nice one for turboing the 1.5.

I hope you realise that like half the club is going to want to have pictures of your setup, and know exactly what you've done

You just gone ahead and build something VERY interesting for
many here you know that do you? haha thats very cool man!

Which model turbo is that? And you put it on with cold side on
left which is also very interesting, allthough only possible if you
dont have airco...

But this is interesting im going to follow this thread for sure!

hi there. i have air con. alot of swearing resonated from my driveway.you will fit.you will bloody fit! the turbo is t25 from saab 93. I build and wire generator systems for living so have access to lots of tools. all piping hoses connections sensors were from work.crap lying around on the shelves. well thats what i told myself. yes its running.I'm taken it easy mind.only taken it upto 3500rpm. i'm still running stock ecu and injectors and fuel pump.I dont have wideband sensor yet so, as its function narrow band sensor justs flicks from rich to lean 11.5 -19. which i know averages to around 15. my only car so taking it easy till injectors and bov are in.i'm cheap scate dont like paying for owt.plus much more fun to find out how something works and just build it.

next purchase is injectors. then a wideband o2. bolt on the de-cat. once i can read what the actual fuel ratio is i'll know how much i can boot it.I've already made boost controller when and if its still running I'll tap that in and hopefully take it upto 10psi. we'll see. still good fun for the mo. spools @ 1500rpm from 2nd gear. so i can play a little

idle just as normal. about 750rpm but i've noticed if i go straight down to 1st from 3rd or higher it drops right down to about 250rpm. its stalled couple of times.have to drop it down gradually or stick it in neutral and it settles quickly without going mega lean

this is getting very interesting indeed. so do you plan to upgrade the internals eventually?

so why can't you take it above 3500rpm just now. is it because of the ecu and the injectors?

yeah the reading, if i understand right, from o2 gauge normally flicks constantly from a rich to lean, rich to lean giving an average rating or number if you like. it should be around 11-12 for boosting and mine starts reading 15-16. not worth going any harder yet. if i blew it wife will go bloody ballistic.haha .plan really is to learn as much as possible over next year or so and get up to high as poss,i could do with new valves and maybe pistons but not going all out on internals.unless i melt them of course. Then in year or so go get v6 323 and do same again. worth a shot

so is it quite drivable only taking it up to 3500rpm? what kinda improvments is there with the turbo fitted.

i know you can't really push it yet but i'm very interested in this project of yours

Yeah Ive also seen that was also wondering about that. It's a very
interesting setup as the turbo is other way arround as standard factory
ones.

And Im also very interested in the IC piping!

The Z5 Turbo Project is really cool. I'm not so familiar with the turbo's set up, but I'm wondering how many WHP more than the stock 90 does it reach with those settings now :?:

 love the project. Sound like you've got your priorities right with the injectors & wideband. I'd recommend a megasquirt after that.

it would have been alot easier to have purchased an intercooler with ports facing left to right as opposed to them both facing one way. but it was a bargain and i'm on tight budget. had to cut back of bumper so internally it was straight, as standard it has that curve that follows shape of car. simply hacked that all off until it was all straight rectangle shape as you look down.that land rover td5 intercooler slots right in and theres even brackets and bolt holes lined up. mazda must have some how known.javascript:emoticon(':D') lol.if you put maf on intake side theres a pain in the a**e delay between what the maf registers and what ecu wants and needs. the fuelling is much more erratic. plus youve only got option of replumbing excess boost. if you vent you'll run rich between gear changes. if i want i can dump excess boost before maf sees it . could do with bigger maf. do that later.maf works by reading change in air temperature which them lets it know how much air is rushing past it.on my setup maf on boost side registers the air that IS being drawn into engine and the exact temperature because its already benn cooled by I.C. the pipin to I.C is 180 degree silicone connected to 44mm piping on compressor to I.C side and 54mm I.C to throttle body side. without hacking too much of your car up theres just enough room to grind some metal away in the gaps either side of radiator.plus all intake piping joints were the off cuts from manifold bends purchased. yes marcdh, i think megasquirt the way to go.get it cheap enough plus i can wire it all together at work(i wire generator sytems for living), it'll seem like im actually working.javascript:emoticon('') nice that your all taking interest. been reading you guys on this forum for months, stealth like. you didnt know it but thanks :D
