what do ppl think about this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=003

its originally off a civic but i'm sue it coul be adaptable for the f. just a new manifold flange and away we go.

or so i think. its all mechanical so it could be done.

comments welcome

turbo kits are built specifically to engines because of their different characteristics from engine to engine, just because your car has similar capacity it might not be suitable. if you were thinking of using a kit from another car maybe it would be best to read a book about turbos first and do some calculations, there is alot to think about chosing the right turbo let alone the right management to control it. i have been looking at making up a turbo system, using a book calledtuarging performance handbook by jeff hartman and his engine management book, brilliant read if you are into this sort of thing even if you dont want to build a complete system.

wel i done the first year of a motorsport engineering course and was given books on engine performance to read. had a look through but a few bits did not make much sense.
the way i'm looking at it is that if use a small turbo(better spooling) and use low boost(ie 3-5 psi) then there would not be too much stress on internal components. then could upgrade them as i/they go.

there is no reason why you cant turbo the 1.5 engine, thats for sure.

as said you would need the manifold and down pipe and you would maybe have to adapt the charge piping to fit upto the MAF, but it could be done.

engine specific argument dont hold much water to me. the only thing you have to consider if the characteristics of the turbo provided. however give that the engines are pretty much the same displacement i cant see how the amount of gas flowing from the head would be too much difference, so the turbo should be fairly usable on the Z5.

you will have to consider the amount of pressure your going to generate. its not really been done so no one really knows how much pressure the engine will take, at least not on this forum, other maybe no of where it has been done before then you are laughing. failing that i would think that if the fuel was correct you could run half a bar or so without too much difficulty.

then you get the fueling. you could just stick in a 5th injector would be the cheapest way of doing it, but not the most sophisiticated. you would need an AFR gauge and some form of switch for the 5th injector but it should do it.

just as long as you get the fueling right and dont run too much boost (so you dont get pre ignition) you should be ok!

dunno how similar th engine are but 1.6 mx-5s can run 10psi boost and get nrly 300hp on stock internals :D

I think the engine management is the most important thing, if you did a year motorsport engineering im sure you know that you have to do something with spark timing the more boost you run, i'll post this link again...

im still in two mind about whether to buy a v6 tho :P
