hi all, Q1- i am buying a 1.8 ba and swapping the engine for bpt i have found engine that comes with ecu and full engine but doesnt say anythin about loom, does any1 knw where i can get a loom from ,is the bpt from the gtx or gtr?. Q2- will i need to swap gear box for g series, as my bruv owns a 325 bmw and the garage that swapped the engine put in the 318 gearbox in and is alot more torquey? thanks

I'd ask them - if they are selling ecu and engine - it would make sense to include the loom - make sure you get all the sensors on the loom as well

BPT = GTX
BPD = GTR

so yours would be a GTX

I'm sure shaggy has said before that the F-series box can be used
But most people change to the G-series

What's the year of the 1.8 you've got your hands on? any chance it already has the G in it??

the gearbox from the 318 is a shorter one, so it revs up better than it did on the normal gearbox. torq output form the 325 will probably kill de gearbox eventually.

The g series gearbox is the only one that decently withstands the torq given but the turbo engine. There is 1 case know here on the forum that actually has the f series gearbox, but it only runs at 190 hp.
Above this the f series gearbox is known to break.
Kinda important if you want to make more than 190hp.

The wireloom is another thing. Shaggy (member name, owner of the mystery machine) has redone a lot of his loom, but it took up a serious amount of time. He did it as a complete new thing. Therefore it is possible to remanufacture or add to an existing wireloom.
Other but expensive option is to order it at mazda.

its a r reg 1.8 executive so i dont think it has g series box, do u know where i can get 1 from scrappers?

what kind of bhp, tourque 0-60 would i be looking wen finished, has any1 got any videos of ba gtx?

check shaggys tread for that, pretty sure that there are some figures or movies in there.

thanks ill have a look ,iv been lookin at a few sites about the gtx spec 1 of them are sayin theres a 1.8, and another is sayin 1.6, can u get either or just 1 of them?

The BF GTX is a 1.6 B6T engine
The BG GTX is a 1.8 BPT engine

I'll find some pics - easiest way to tell the difference is that the intake pipe comes in over the top of the engine on the B6T

thanks for that, the bpt is the 1 iv been lookin at, so that engine will be a straight fit, everythin apart from gear box in the ba is ready to go?




what will it need to be changed 2, drive shaft from what?? sorry if that sounds like a dumb ass Q

you need to change a drive shaft as well - passenger side (i think)
they're not the same G and F series

and you need the mount on the gearbox as well - as they are also different between G and F series

I think there is a thread in the forced induction section that has a list of what you need
