if I remember correctly the B6 manifold will bolt up to the z5 but the z5 ports are round and b6 are oval so i dunno what itll do to the flow :cyclopsani:
then you need to get a custom downpipe / exhaust to meet the mani also

you also need to find out what psi that turbo pushes out etc think from what the americans found out its around 10psi a z5 demolishes itself so around 5-8 for a reliable daily driver at most, i don't have a clue what 16g means but pumping it into google brings up a few pages.

how are you gonna manage the fueling also? i think the mx5 1.6 injectors 'might' fit or maybe bp ones, might be to much if I remember correctly but you still need some sorta piggyback like unichip or greddy emanage or full standalone £££, there are a few bodge jobs on the american forums of just upping fuel pump, pressure reg and injectors and hoping for the best but thats up to you if you wanna try it

have a look on imazda and the other clubprotege sites and talk to someone like shaggy if your really serious, as i honestly don't know for sure and am only going by what ive read on other z5 turbos in the states.

theres also alot more to consider than what i just posted above its just what was in my head at the time

ALOT of time and research is the key

it is a long and frustrating job but you get to try something few people have, but i dunno if its still worth it at the end, thats for you to decide.

edit.. it might actually be the zm 1.6 manifold im thinking of, ill go check

yea it was the zm 1.6 i was thinking of

z5 custom made turbo manifold on a zm 1.6 head:

thread:
http://www.imazda.com/forums/showthread ... 5+manifold

you'll be wanting to talk to that guy kitty, hes on of the (or the only) only people with a proper relaible daily driver setup that works well

but at 8 psi with a tubo that size would only really be good up to about 150ishbhp.
not really worth the money/effort then.

None of the pipework will fit. The MX5 engines are longtidudinally (sp?) mounted where as the F's are transverse.

thats why not alot of people attempt it and those who do usually fail

there is no cheap easy option on the 1.5, mainly because there is no market for it so why waste development money and time for little profit

every option you look at for the 1.5 will cost thousands, you can maybe get away with a budget of £1500 for exhaust, unichip, filter, cams if your really lucky. prolly more like £2000 all in

best option in my opinion is to get a decent filter / panel filter + caf
backbox
some lightweight wheels
decent suspension setup
lose rear interior

leave it be

or add some nos if your feeling adventurous

thats it, thats all there is for the z5, you'll roughly knock a second off your time up the 1/4 if your really damn lucky and spend a whole lot of cash in the process

still a nice car though, enjoy the cheap tax, insurance and fuel, thats its main advantages

That won't fit the Z5 engine as stated above, there has been a case, not documented, of somebody fitting the top end of a B6 to a Z5 and turboing that, as rumour has it the B6 and Z5 blocks are the same length, indeed the Z5 is a B6 evolution engine :)

I think a few people who have turboed NA cars have whacked a 5th Injector infront of the throttle body

cant remap the 1.5 ecu it has ROM(read only memory) instead o RAM(random access memory)
meaning that it would be a new ECU jobbie.

itll still probably be sometype of rom as ram loses all contents when power is lost, wouldn't be much use if it lost the factory map when you disconnect the battery now?

something like PROM is probably used where Mazda write the map onto a blank PROM chip and its done

remappable ecu's might use something like EEPROM, that would be my guess, - rom that can be rewritten / flashed but won't lose its contents when power is lost.

might be something totally different though but from what was said above thats how i would see it.
