Right, in an effort to be different I want to look into the possibility of turbo the v6 ba.. im sure there are lots of you who have looked into this, so before I go on other forums asking questions that have already been asked, let me start here by asking you!

Ive started this thread so that I can collect information on it and that it mite be useful to future members if they consider this route as opposed to the 1.8 BPT conversion..

So my first point of call has got to be talking to some other car owners who have done this mod, which im working on.. if anyone has had experience in this or has looked into this, pile your info into this thread.. cos atm im on the edge lookin it and have no real idea..

ive got the funding to do this, I just need to decide if my BA is in good enough condition to warrant this first, only had it 6 months, so theres no point turboing a car that isnt up to the job.

Engine

Right so what we can establish so far is that, the V6 is slightly different from the lower capacity models in the range in that it has a K series engine... This is also found it, the ford probe (2 litre and 2.5 turbo versions?), the mazda mx-3 and... ?)

What else to we know tho... Internals will need extra work as the V6 internals cannot take the extra bhp given by a conversion.. but what are we renewing? pistons, bearings? crankshafts..? what is good for 250 bhp and what is not..

secondly, what should the target figure for a 2 litre v6 turbo charged engine be?

Turbo Kits

Right, so far ive only managed to find kit listings, for the mazda mx-5 and probe...

an example..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/93-97-fo ... enameZWDVW

ok so thats great, but what are you getting for your money there, and how do we know thatl even work on the ba?

Engine Management

When I had my escort, many of the guys who looked at 2 litre turbo options used an aftermarket company who could offer piggyback ECU's that would sit alongside the current engine management to control the additional settings, anyone got any info if a company who does mazda specific type things exist...

Other

What else have I missed? Brake upgrades needed? what about intercoolers, good brands, poor brands etc?

Sorry if it seems like im rabbiting on a bit, its just ive done alot of searching on this forum and there are od bits of info scattered about but alot of dead ends and I thought it mite be an idea to bring it all together in one thread.. im a real novice looking into this at the moment, but that doesnt stop me wanting to know more!! im sure there are plenty of v6's owners who have thought about this option..

how far did u look into it? what was the outcome? tell us here!! opinions are what counts, it saves other people time and money!!

The 2 litre Probe has a Inline 4 engine, coded FS.
Only the 2.5 Probe has a V6.
MX3 has a 1.8 V6.
Can I ask what kind of power figure you'd be looking to acheive?

Smotter has great things to say about the Dastek Unichip ECU. Brakes should still be fine but maybe upgrade the rotors to drilled and grooved and performance pads and the kit you have posted up lists an intercooler with the package.

I have looked into this a little and ....

before you even start looking into it ....

How old are you ?
How much is your budget ?
what HP you wanting to get to ?
what do you want to use the car for ?
Who is going to do the work ?
What do you expect to get from Turboing a V6 ?

Once those are answered then we have a starting point ....

Turboing a V6 has been done on the Mx-3 and the Mx-6 and the Probe ...probably on the 323 by now also outside the UK, All of which are very expensive when done properly.

KLZE conversion can be done relatively cheaply if you do all the work yourself and you can get towards 200 BHP fairly easy.
If you are doing a Turbo conversion then use the UK spec KFDE or KLDE - better compression ratio for forced induction.

1.8 Turbo conversion on a V6 car is probably a no go due to cost and compared to a KLZE n/a conversion theres not much in it unless you go for the GTR turbo. Yes there are future gains to be had more easily but you may aswell start with a 1.8 and do a GTR/GTX swap... much more economical.
