I'm wondering if my garage has done the right thing here, they've used grey gasket sealant to fix the timing belt top plastic cover. Pictures below. I wonder if some BJ (1.5) owners could do me a favour and post some pictures of their own, and let me know if there's a gasket on this part. Many thanks in advance!

Well, there is a gasket that's deteriorating with time.. my engine still has it's rubber on the covers but is in very poor condition and when i changed WP and belts i used silicone as well. (well black one)
Nothing bad actually, well, if you put too much it will look strange but it will stop all the dirt going inside..
