Hi

I'm trying to remove the radio from the above, it has a rattle that is annoying me.

I have googled, and I know how to remove the two side bars, but according to what I have read, it should just then pull out, but mine does not.

I thought you may have to use a removal tool to get the radio out, but from what i have read, that is not the case.

Just wondering if anybody here had taken one of these radios out.

It is a basic, factory fitted radio, without CD.

I take it its the big dubble din unit? If so you will need removal tool or pins, ebay sells them . heres a link

Yep you just need a set of those tools - actually ideally you need two sets as you need two per side. I made do with one set by loosening on side and moving it out fractionally then the same at the other side until it gradually popped out. Must have taken a good ten minutes of muttering, but it came out in the end. Dont try without the tools or you'll end up scoring the dash trim...

I have ordered two sets of the removal tools, so I will wait for them to come through and see what happens.

I hope then I will be able to see what is making the annoying noise.

I have only just bought the car, but so far I am very impressed, other than this little problem.

Once that is sorted, I need to get a dint taken out and sorted on the roof above the drivers door and I have also noticed a small area of bubbling on the passenger side wheel arch, so I will get that sorted at the same time.

For a 2001 car though, it is in great condition and I hope it gives a long and reliable service.

I will have a good look through this site and see what tips I can pick up.

Sorry to ressurect this thread, but I'm changing my double din original cd/cassette unit to a single that a friend is very kindy donating to me. Can someone link me to where I can buy the bits you need to take the current head unit out and also to where I might be able to buy a fascia for the gap that will be left when the single unit is in? Inexpensively preferably.

You need 2 pairs of the standard stereo keys (U shaped, round ones)...ebay is your friend

why take out your double din? you'll lose the steering wheel controls...

Ah will I? Hmmm.. haven't 100% decided what to do yet if I'm honest. There's a sub and 6x9s going in the back and at some point new door speakers and I was told I'd have to change the head unit if I was planning to change all that. (that might be b******s but I'm clueless about it all so I don't know!). Plus, I want an aux slot for ipod...

Easiest to swap to a new head unit then - you can buy the adaptors so you can use your steering wheel controls, but allow for the extra cost, they're about £40.
You can replace yours with a double din unit...with a screen...dvds are great

With this adaptor I have found , if the batter is disconaected I have to re-plug the controls for them to work again. Something to be aware of.

If you go single din route. There are various single din compartments available form ebay.

Thanks for your help guys I would love a double din, eyed one up the other day in Hellfrauds that cost about £500 Haha, yeah right. On an epic student budget, already have the sub etc from an old car and a friend of mine is selling me his single din nice and cheap, which is probably what I will stick with. When I'm less poor I'll hopefully upgrade to a nice double din and then sort out steering wheel controls then
