hi all

thinking of tackling the rear arches of my bj sport, it's only surface rust the now, just want some advise, like paint code?, it's a black bj, also how many layers to spray on of black, and so on. anybody else done there own arches?, any advise would be helpfull

You can get the paint code off the sticker on the drivers door sill. Once you have removed the rust make sure you treat it before painting to prevent the return of rust. Get a good base layer of primer on. Then put on colour. Can't say how many layers of each as can't see it for myself. Put laquer on top. Bodyshops blend it in but not sure how you would do that with a spray can.

grind the rust away to good clean metal. Treat the area with bilthamber or similar (not kurust!) then use a good filler to reshape the area. A few coats of primer, high build if your filler isn't perfect, then let that cure fully. The base (colour) coat will change in shade the more coats you apply, so only you will be able to judge that - 3 is usually about right.

you can use lacquer blend...not had much success with it myself - paint the arch with base colour locally (don't mask off the area, just blend it in), then lacquer the whole rear panel, and along the roof above the doors to the front wing. Sounds like a lot of work, but you get a great result

cheers guys , gives me somthing to think about, the rust is on the arch rim the flat bit, so when done not gonna be on main body work, there's alittle on the side not much so blending might not be so bad, again cheers for the help
