How much fuel is left in the fuel tank when the reserve light comes on? 55 litre tank of a 1.6 BJ.

My light usually comes on with about 50 miles remaining showing on the trip computer, so probably 7 litres ish

I can normally squeeze 400 miles out of a tank...but my light came on today after only 330 miles ...so I can't calculate as well as normal because I've obviously not been driving particularly well on this last trip....to be fair, it was sustained high speed cruising

Its said around 50 miles but as ive found out I have done an extra 5miles after the trip is on 0

9 litres left when the light comes on, so you should be safe for at least 40 miles.

Oh right - so 2 gallons - so you're assuming Neil that I'll be doing 20mpg!

Filled up with 46 litres, so a good 9 litres left in the tank when I filled up, and the orange light had been on for at least 20 miles.... Must have driven very economically for the last bit from the orange light to the fuel station

I also worked out that the fuel level thing must be on the rear right hand side, as I have less fuel going down hill and when parked with the right hand side of the car on the pavement/kerb and the left hand side of the car on the road (This driving to the fuel light thing happens to me quite often )

Still getting at least 35mpg...and that was a ermm "high speed" cruise to southampton and back at ermm...well 4,500 rpm was sustained for a while

I was erring on the cautious side.
The fuel gauge isn't accurate, its merely a guide telling you roughly, with the emphasise on rough, how much fuel you have left.

Yeah I generally just reset the odo and use that

This puzzled me too. My 1.6 GXi has the 55L tank, but it always took around 48L to fill, even after 30 miles with the warning light on.

Out of curiosity, I put a 5L spare fuel can in the boot and ran for 65 miles with the warning light on and it still only took 52L to fill, meaning 3L left - that's another 25 miles!

One day I'll run it dry to get a definitive answer, but I don't want to conk out on a busy road with nowhere to pull in.

I got 75 milles with the light on until i ran out of fuel! Angrlly, i only had a mile left to the petrol station haha.

Ha ha, yeh I seem to be filling up at around the 48litre mark these days. Did a quick calculation - driving in the snow has severly crippled my fuel consumption....
