1. All Doors closed, ign on.
2. Remove ign key.
3. Open drivers door.
4. Insert ign key, turn ign on, turn ign off, remove ign key.
5. Insert ign key, turn ign on, turn ign off, remove ign key.
6. Insert ign key, turn ign on, turn ign off, remove ign key.
7. Press and release the drivers door switch.
8. Press and release the drivers door switch.
9. Press and release the drivers door switch.
10.Buzzer should sound once or doors lock/unlock themselves.
11.Press any transmitter button twice.
12.Buzzer should sound once or doors should lock/unlock.
13.If you have only one transmitter, wait 30 seconds. If you have 2 transmitters go to step 15.
14.Buzzer should sound four times or doors should lock/unlock four times.
15.Press any button twice on next transmitter.
16.Buzzer should sound once or doors should lock/unlock.
17.Wait 30 seconds.
18.Test both transmitters.

Each step should be carried out within 5 seconds of the previous one. Drivers door pin switch needs to be working (Check interior light op.) and room fuse needs to be installed

Here's a question for you robbie.....

I'm swapping my 1998 1.5 for a 2002 1.6 gsi, and want to keep some of the bits i added...ie the magnecours and the K&N, i need to find out whether either will fit the new car (gonna stick the old bits back on now i've got a good part ex figure)

Been looking to see if they might be interchangeable, the new engine looks of a similar type, but dont want to just bung them on and cause damage.

Any help would be great.

the k&n should fit just,just remove air control valve from air filter housing (2x10mm bolts)and slip on the k&n

Hi All,

I couldn't get this to work at all. Are there any conditions where this guide wouldn't work? I think it failed on my car because I have a sneaky suspicion there is an after-market alarm fitted. How can I check for this/verify this is the problem?

I tried steps 4-6 both with and without removing ign key. Didn't get any feedback whatsoever from the system after following the process. Where can I start troubleshooting this?
(Can I buy a replacement fob? [the thing stopped working after I replaced the battery])

Tomorrow I'm going to start following wires around the car... :/

Hi All,

Just to let you know that I was able to re-program the remote fob for my Mazda in a slightly different manner. The first clue was that the above process didn't work, the second clue was that the fob I have doesn't look like the fob as shown in the brochure for the car (available from the links under BJ/Model Information on this site)

The fob I have is part of a very common alarm/remote central locking after market kit used in a variety of cars (aka "Cobra" alarm/kit) - after replacing the battery in the fob it was necessary for me to follow a resynch process which I found with more googling.

1. In very close proxmity to the vehicle press and hold both buttons on the remote control until the flashing red light between them goes off
2. Press the big button once and then again (all doors should lock/unluck)
3. Test a couple of times

tried the above technic, and didn't work , got a 2 button fob,from one of the lads on site, but not working, didn't hear a buzzer, and the central locking didn't lock unlock 4 times please help!!!!, dunno what to do.

where can i get a remote fob from?

I have just lost a set of keys!!!

Am I right in thinking that.... if I re code the transmitter which we still have, the one which is missing will NOT be able to open the car?

I am hoping that the car "deletes" information about any fobs that arent coded together

no . Your just matching the fob to the car ..... not changeing the code or frequency if that makes sense? So the lost fob will still work if found.

Thanks errnee, Its a good job they turned up then. One of the neighbours kids picked them up when they were playing in our garden . The parents came round rather embarrassed and so apologetic , I insisted that it wasnt a problem as they had turned up. Just relieved to have my keys back.
