hey guys, right now that its winter and when you get in the car your sitting there freezing your bum off while your waiting for the car to warm up. what do you do!? so many people have different answers. some say rev the car gently some say dont cos that wears the engine some say drive staright away some say dont wait for it to warm up cos the engine oil is like jelly when cold? so.......... what would you mazda gurus suggest is the best option? thanks |

Drive it from cold. It warms up quicker and uses less fuel. Engine oil is like jelly when cold? LOL. If that was the case, then no matter whether you're driving or letting it idle on the drive, it will damage the engine. Engine oil is designed to withstand - temperatures much colder than what the uk can ever throw at it. |

Drive it, but carefully, and keep the revs lowish. |

Old carb cars are better warmed up a little, but if you have fuel injection you should just drive it, carefully, from cold. One point to remember is just because the water temp is ok, doesn't mean the oil is up to temp

I let it run for a minute or so (while i put my seatbelt on, fiddle with the stereo, or scrape the windows), then drive it, keeping it under 3krpm until its almost up to temp, then just drive it normally

X2 with Hughie here, I just leave it running for a couple of mins, I guess it all depends really if the inside of the screen is misted up or not, I hate wiping the inside glass when moist !!!!!!! The inlaws do it everytime they get in the car but I guess I have to be polite about it. . . |

i also do what hughie does, i drive off pretty much straight away and i NEVER take it past 3000 revs untill the needle is at normall running temp, only takes about 5 mins to warm up. kev |

With the RX7, I like to start it on full choke on a cold morning, and let it warm up for a bit while I go round and clear the glass etc, select a CD...and watch the entire street fill up with a nice big cloud of 2 stroke oily smoke ![]() Karissa once left for work 10 minutes after me, and said she could smell the fact that I'd taken the RX7

The Fd Rx-7 automatically revs up to 3k rpm when cold to accelerate the warm up procedure. I've since removed the solenoid that does this. |
It doesn't really smoke when driving, but it does pick up oil from the sump to lubricate the rotors...and I also run it on a premix of petrol and 2-stroke oil ![]() It smells more of petrol anyway, I think that's because it runs a carb, and no cats or anything

I start, let it run for 5-10 seconds, then drive off. I drive calm the first 5-10km's, I don't raise RPM's if the water needle is "warm".. I yust drive till the oil is warm before going in high RPM's this reduces the worn of the engine

and i found a need trick to keep my front window ice-free during cold nights
Please enlighten us
well it atleast works for me: just before I shut down for the night, I put my whipers up (so that they don't touch the window) and spray a bunch of windowwasher on my window. that stuff appearantly doesn't freeze and sort of isolates my window from water. sounds like a long shot but tried it the nights before and it sure as hell froze and I didn't have to scratch at all

Hi I'll just borrowed this topic for my question ![]() I've already asked a same question on our nation forum, but for me it just wasn't enough I noticed in last month and a half when i start the cold engine a revs jump to aprox 2000-2500 rpm for some seconds and then drops to normally 1000 rpm where should be started from begining Some guys told me that this is nothing unusually but when my girlfriend start the car (she also owned a 323F BA '98) revs don't jump so high like my engine do So where the hell lies a problem? I assume on MAF sensor which was recently replaced together with air-induction pipe Or are mine suspicions wrong? Can any one help me?

no problem, mine does the same thing. revs to 2000 for a couple of seconds and then drops to a normal idle rpm |

It's a common thing with our cars Tauko, it's to do with the automatic choke. Seriously it's normal, it's more pronounced in cold weather I find. |
I would love to do that. remote start hmmm. is it hard to do?
comes with an alarm and remote for your CV. it's a bit of a hassle and you REALLY need to know which wires do what, but once you get there it's worth it. |
